Chase The Light

LP (Item 917732) Gee (France), 2017 — Condition: Sealed

Funky keyboards and dubby grooves – a great little record that's as much inspired by Jamaican music as it is the longer legacy of American funky jazz! Soul Sugar first started giving us 45s about a decade ago, but their sound has really matured over the years – as leader/keyboard maestro Guillaume Metenier has gained even more control over his Hammond, Fender Rhodes, clavinet, and minimoog – and also picked up plenty of sweet keys along the way! The rest of the instrumentation on the set mostly just comes from bass and drums – but there's a sonic layering approach that really makes for a deep, rich vibe throughout – completely badass in approach, with none of the fakery that you might get if a less-skilled musician were trying to fuse two musical worlds together. Three tracks feature vocals, and the legendary Lonnie Smith guests on one track too – and titles include "Big Car", "East Of The River Nile", "Take A Chance", "19 Miles To Kingston", "Why Can't We Live Together", "Mellow Mood", and "Get Up & Get It".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Shrinkwrap has some sticker remnants.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
