End Of A Love Affair

CD (Item 825274) Venus (Japan), 2001 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

There's no end to our love affair with this great group – one of the most rock-solid lineups of the past decade or so, thanks to tight work from some players who clearly love working with each other! The mighty Eric Alexander is in the frontline on tenor sax – as are Jim Rotondi on trumpet and Steve Davis on trombone – and the rhythm section's equally cooking with David Hazeltine on piano, Peter Washington on bass, and the mighty Joe Farnsworth on drums! The set's got the kind of groove you might think was only cut back in the day – a soulful take on hardbop that's right up there at a Blue Note level of precision and expression. Titles include "Shinjuku Waltz", "How Are You", "Corcovado", "Stolen Moments", and "The Eyes Have It".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Manhattan Reverie
Venus (Japan), 2006. Used
There's a bit of reverie here, but it's usually the swinging kind instead of the sleepy variety – thanks to a well-formed groove from Richie Beirach on piano, George Mraz on bass, and Billy Hart on drums! The tunes certainly include a few ballads, but Richie usually takes them with a freely ... CD

2 great trio recordings from Jim Hall – one from 1956 and one from 1960! The first 3 tracks on the set are from an early trio session that Hall recorded with drummer Chico Hamilton and bassist George Duvivier – material that ended up on an early Hamilton album for Pacific Jazz, amongst ... CD

Art Farmer

Modern Art
Blue Note, 1958. Used
A seminal session as a leader by the young Art Farmer – recorded for United Artists, and a great set of tight lyrical tunes, played by Farmer in his sparkling style – in a group along with Benny Golson on tenor and Bill Evans on piano. Evans is a special treat here, as the 1958 session ... CD
