Rare quartet work from Hampton Hawes – brilliant stuff, too – with some incredible solos by both Hamp and also by Larry Bunker on vibes! Hampton is working here with a group of fellow west coast players including drummer and vibist Bunker (exclusively on the vibes here and he's incredible at it), Clarence Jones on bass and Larry Marable on the kit. Hawes works best in small combos, of course – most often in trios – but the added group dynamics that come in with the vibes here is truly exciting! Includes the Hawes originals "Terrible T", "Fanfare", and the standouts "Hamp's Paws" – plus "Move" (another highlight and one of the fastest moving number on the record), "Squeeze Me", "Once In A While" and riveting take on Charlie Parker's "Buzzy" to close. © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
