Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Vladimir And His Orchestra

New Sound In Latin Jazz
Alegre, Late 60s. Used
One of the few albums ever recorded by Vladimir Vassilieff – an obscure late 60s piano player who's best known for his groovy album The Aquarians! The record's a really wonderful set that really lives up to its title – a haunting set of Latin jazz numbers played with a hip group that ... CD

Snowboy

New Beginnings
Chilli Funk (UK), 2004. Used
Less of a New Beginning for Snowboy than a "back to his roots" sort of set – as London's ultimate percussionist serves up a very tasty batch of Latin jazz tracks that recall the best of his earliest recordings! The feel here is nice and stripped down – a blistering blend of ... CD
Fania, 1981. Used
An unusual self-produced effort from Hector Lavoe – but a record that's every bit as strong as his other solo records from the time! Of course, Hector's got some big help on the record from Louie Ramirez and Jose Febles – who most likely did most of the arranging work, and ensure that ... CD

Andy Harlow

Sorpresa La Flauta
Vaya, 1972. Used
A classic early album from Larry Harlow's flute-playing brother – a set that grooves along with the trademark family groove, but which also has a fair bit of sensitive moments as well! There's a jazzier style here than on some of the classic Orchestra Harlow albums – one that comes not ... CD
Cotique/Fania, Late 60s. Used
Brilliant early work by one of the sharpest bandleaders of the Latin Soul era! A young Joey Pastrana leads his sharp little combo through a stunning mix of Latin jazz, Latin soul, and descarga tracks – all with the kind of hard playing, jazzy grooves, and dark edges that characterized a lot ... CD

Count Basie with Sarah Vaughan

Count Basie & Sarah Vaughan (with bonus tracks)
Roulette, 1960. Used
Sarah Vaughan gets some backing from Count Basie – making for a record that's one of her jazziest and swinging of the time! As with other Basie-related vocal sessions from the early 60s, this one has a soulful edge and a nice little bounce – one that makes for a more solid approach ... CD
Play Time/Hi & Fly (France), 1970s. Used
This series keeps on going strong – with a brilliant batch of funky tunes that you'll be hard pressed to find elsewhere! Funky jazz is the operative term here, but there's also a bit of soul – and the set's got a focus on those break-heavy cuts that used to show up years back on dodgy ... CD

Miles Davis

Siesta
Warner, 1987. Used
One of Miles' last great albums – a soundtrack composed in conjunction with Marcus Miller, and recorded with a mix of atmospheric electronics and trumpet solos, coming off in a way that sounds far better than most of his other attempts at this style from the time. Miller plays all the other ... CD

JVC, 1988. Used
Ernie Watts on tenor, alto & soprano sax, pat coil on piano, Joel Dibartolo on bass & Bob Leatherbarrow on drums. CD
