I Was Born This Way (original, short, inst)

12-inch (Item 69138) Next Plateau, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+
Out Of Stock

12-inch, Vinyl record

✈

A wonderful disco groover, reissued by Next Plateau in the 80s, but originally recorded for Motown n 1977 by Carl Bean, who we think never got a chance to issue a full album for the label! The real strength of the cut lies with Norman Harris – who produced the cut with a warm bubbling Philly finish – one that really makes the most of Bean's gospel-drenched vocals, and brings out the righteous, positive feel of the tune!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In a Next Plateau sleeve, with some wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brunswick, 1979. Very Good-
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sugar Hill, 1982. Near Mint-
A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Manhattan, 1985. Near Mint- (pic cover)
A pretty great number from Bernard Wright – much smoother and more R&B than some of his work on GRP/Arista, but a great track with a wonderful 80s groove hook! The vocals are surprisingly nice, augmented by a female singer on the chorus – and the tune's still got some nice jazzy ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

A vocal and instrumental version of this fat, fat Go-Go take on 'Trans Europe Express", with massive bass, heavy syncopated beats, and nice spacey synthesizer sounds! 12-inch, Vinyl record
