One of the most important documents in the history of avant jazz – and the seminal 1968 recording that forever put Peter Brotzmann on the map! The session is a landmark meeting of 8 important talents on the European free scene of the 60s – Sven Johansson on drums, Peter Kowald on bass, Willem Breuker on tenor & bass clarinet, Fred Van Hove on piano, Evan Parker on tenor, and Han Bennink on drums – all working in an incredibly powerful blend that has all the ferocity of a machine gun let loose! Much is made of the heavy free noise, all true, really – but it says nothing of the spine-tingling passion on display throughout. Awesome, earthshaking greatness! The CD features the original LP tracks in the same format as the self-produced pressing on Brotzmann's BRO label in 1968 – with the classic 17+ "Machine Gun", followed by "Responsible/For Jan Van De Ven" and "Music For Han Bennink" – plus alternate takes "Machine Gun" (second take) and "Responsible/For Jan Van De Ven" (first take) – and an incendiary "Machine Gun" live from the 1968 Frankfurt Jazz Festival with additional sax by Gerd Dudek! © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
