Vice Pres (10 inch LP)

LP (Item 614501) EmArcy, Early 50s — Condition: Good
Originally: 9.99
Some of the greatest work as a leader ever cut by tenorist Paul Quinichette – longtime Basie alum, and a key player who was the "Vice Pres" next to Lester Young's "Pres". The record is one of the best full-length albums by Quinichette from the early days – titles include "The Hook", "Samie", "Shad Roe", "Bot Bot", and "Paul's Bunion".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Drummer logo pressing with deep groove. NOTE – Vinyl is very noisy at the start of Side A, and plays with surface noise and faint crackle through the rest. Cover has heavy aging and some spotty stains on front and back.)

Good

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brilliant work from the "Vice Pres" – tenorist Paul Quinichette, stepping out here in one the best of of his all-too-few sessions as a leader! Paul's tone is amazing throughout – very much on a par with that of Ben Webster or Coleman Hawkins, and proof that his admission to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jazz In 3/4 Time

A great little album from Max Roach – one that has him finding a whole new voice in jazz! The set was recorded on the heels of Max's time with Clifford Brown – and it's a great little album that has him bouncing back nicely from the loss by moving into a new realm that shows off his ... There's definitely lots of brass here – as you might guess from the title – but never so much so that it gets in the way of individual soloing by Maynard Ferguson! Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... Way nicer than some of Milt's earlier work – and one of the gems he recorded with bassist Ray Brown during the late 60s. The group's got a tight soul jazz stepping groove – with Monty Alexander on piano, comping along right over Ray's warm basslines in a very tasty way. Teddy Edwards ... LP, Vinyl record album

A pretty interesting album – one in which a host of jazz and rock players pay set music to texts written by consciousness-raiser/sci-fi author Ishmael Reed. There's a few goofy moments on the set, but if you've read Reed's work, you'll also know that goofiness and oddity are part of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
