Julie's Golden Greats

LP (Item 610470) Liberty, Early/Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+
(Rainbow label stereo pressing. Cover has light wear and two peeled strips on the back.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Julie London

Love On The Rocks
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
A record that has Julie London already hitting that great "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast" mode of later years – the adult, informed approach that showed that the teasing nude of the 50s had turned into a pleasing woman of the 60s – capable of frank presentation of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Liberty, 1967. Very Good+
Plenty of body, and even more soul – a great little groove on the record at points, in that slinky, vampy sort of mode that Julie London picked up in the 60s! The album's got Julie taking on a fair bit of R&B and bluesy numbers – still singing in her more jazz-based style, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

By Myself
Liberty, Mid 60s. Very Good+
(Black label stereo pressing.) LP, Vinyl record album

Julie London

Make Love to Me
Liberty, 1957. Very Good-
Hard to imagine that Julie London would ever have to ask anyone to make love to her – at least not when she looks as sexy as this on the cover! The album's a key early classic for Liberty – still very fragile, personal, and up-close enough to make you think you might just be able to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Four Grads

From This Moment On
Liberty, 1957. Very Good-
(Vinyl plays with a light click on a few tracks on side 1. Cover has taped seams, light surface wear & aging.) LP, Vinyl record album

Bev Kelly

Love Locked Out
Riverside, 1959. Near Mint-
The first Riverside album by Bev Kelly – an obscure ice-blond singer from the late 50s, with a sound that's much more in keeping with some of the vocalists on the Bethlehem label, than the few singers who cut sides for Riverside. Bev's got the great fortune to be working here with Jimmy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bethlehem, Early 60s. Sealed
A classic set of early jazz recordings by Nina Simone – one of her first albums ever, but already with an approach that's quite different from other singers of the time! Nina's singing a fair bit of standards here, but she brings a deeply personal approach to the material – inflecting ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, Mid 1950s. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A great 2-fer – featuring both of Noel Coward's Columbia albums in one 70s set. First up is Noel Coward In New York – a very cool album from Coward – a talent you're probably more familiar with as a playwright, but who also happens to be quite the entertainer! This album is one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milestone, 1987. Near Mint-
Mark Murphy sings the music of Ivan Lins – a great mix of modes, with instrumentation from Azymuth, and work from Frank Morgan on alto and Claudio Roditi on trumpet! LP, Vinyl record album
AVA, 1963. Near Mint-
Great work by a great singer – the far under-recorded Irene Kral, a lovely lady who really bridges a number of different camps in the vocal jazz world! At one level, Irene's got the coolness of a Christy or Connor, but at another, she's got a more open, swinging, and soulful style – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Debut, 1954. Near Mint-
A beautiful early session on Charles Mingus' Debut Records label – one that features singer Ada Moore – a thin-voiced, yet soulful songstress with an edgey sort of tone! The album's got lots of nice rough edges that take it away from the cliched vocal album of the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album
