LP (Item 6032) Phase 4, 1970 — Condition: Very Good-
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

✈
❔
A really great album from the glory days of the moog generation – served up by an artist who'd formerly worked in jazz, but who does a great job here – working with very little behind the electronics! Tracks include "Venus", "Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head", and "Everybody's Talkin" – and a nice version of "Nights In White Satin" too!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(UK pressing, non-gatefold. Vinyl plays with light crackles on the first track. Cover has unglued seams.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Phase 4, Mid 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Pretty compelling stuff from Brit arranger Ray Martin! Sound Of Sight – a record that's exactly what it's titled at – a very visual set of sounds, made up mostly from music, but also featuring some cool sound effects as well – all laid out over original tunes by Martin, which act ... Stanley Black

Black Magic
Phase 4/London, 1976. Near Mint-
Amazing work from Stanley Black – honest! The album's far funkier and far more dynamic than most of Stanley's other albums in the past – and is a sweet electric 70s session with plenty of elements you'd expect to find in some of the Brit Easy or sound library albums of the time! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Kapp/Vogue (Germany), 1965. Very Good+
A great batch of early work from Burt Bacharach – one of the first albums to be issued under his own name, and proof that Mr B was head and shoulders above most of the other arrangers and composers of his time! At some level, the style here is a bit more traditional than some of Burt's later ... LP, Vinyl record album

Henry Mancini

Symphonic Soul
RCA, 1975. Very Good
One of Henry Mancini's grooviest LPs from the 70s – a mixture of tight large arrangements with a smooth funky edge, similar to some of his best soundtrack work at the time! The rhythm section is great – with Harvey Mason on drums and Joe Sample on keyboards, and guitar by David T ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hi Fi/Piccadilly, 1963. Sealed
A record that boasts a strange image of Arthur Lyman on the front – one that almost makes him look a bit thuggish, despite the affection promised in the title! (A bit of rough trade, perhaps?) The tunes themselves are a love-centered batch of exotic instrumentals – most with "love ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hi Fi/Piccadilly, Late 50s. Sealed
One of Arthur Lyman's first LPs –- a brilliant set of percussively grooving tracks, modulated at a low tempo, and recorded in the Henry J. Carmen Cavallaro

With That Latin Beat
Decca, 1959. Very Good+
The frenzied piano of Carmen Cavallaro gets a nice does of Latin rhythms on this set – and the set's a great example of the way that cocktail piano and Latin were strongly linked in the New York scene of the 50s! Carmen's style here is certainly different than that of Joe Loco, Noro Morales, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mariachi Brass with Chet Baker

Taste Of Tequila
World Pacific, 1966. Near Mint-
A strange 60s chapter in the career of trumpeter Chet Baker – but one that we sure like a heck of a lot! These sides were recorded as an answer to the big success of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass over at A&M Records – and for the sessions, Chet's trumpet was backed by jaunty, ... Miles Davis

Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ...
