A treasure trove of work by this wonderful late 70s trio – 4 albums of material that were originally only issued for the Japanese market, brought together here in one overstuffed set! The work was recorded during the course of a year between 1977 and 1978 – all by the trio of Hank Jones on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Tony Williams on drums – all at a level that definitely earns the group the "great" in their name! Jones is an especial surprise here – because although he's got some of the sweeter tones of earlier years, he also opens up with a freer sense of lyricism in the company of Carter and Williams – never outside at all, but definitely with a loosened up groove.
