Jair De Todos Os Sambas

LP (Item 59876) Philips (Brazil), 1969 — Condition: Very Good+
Just Sold Out!

LP, Vinyl record album

❔
Really great work from Jair – samba tunes, as the title suggests, but done with a lively feel, and some nice jazzy touches on the best cuts! The record's got a great bouncy baroque feel to it – and Jair's vocals, as always, are rough and soulful, working extremely well with the percussion. Titles include "Bloco Do Sujo", "Pra Que Dinheiro", "O Conde", "Leva Meu Samba", "Feiticeira", "Levanta A Cabeca", and "Ve Que Luar".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! The language here is all Portuguese, though – but nicely updated by Gal in that range of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maria Bethania

Nossos Momentos
Philips (Brazil), 1982. Very Good+ Gatefold
A great little live set from Maria Bethania – one recorded with the lighter, looser sound she was using in the early 80s – and which stands as a nice contrast to her more dramatic concert performances of the 70s! The music director for the show is Gilberto Gil, and there's a bit of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vinicius De Moraes & Toquinho

Vinicius & Toquinho (1974)
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
Classic bossa mixed with more ambitious touches for the 70s – easily one of the greatest records ever to come from the team of Vinicius and Toquinho! Philips (Brazil), 1979. Very Good
A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! Their sound is a different from that of Quarteto Em Cy or Tamba Trio, and their singing is less filled with straight jazzy harmonies than it is some off-kilter vocal lines that weave together and challenge each other throughout the ... Chico Buarque (1978)
Philips (Brazil), 1978. Very Good-
One of Chico's strongest albums of the late 70s – a masterful set of sophisticated tunes, recorded with some great guest help from Milton Nascimento, Zizi Possi, and Elba Ramalho! Claudette Soares

De Tanto Amor
Philips (Brazil), 1971. Very Good+
Baroquely beautiful pop from the great Claudette Soares – arranged by Cesar Mariano with a mix of jazz, late bossa, and those cool and groovy styles that were really percolating during the Blue Brazil generation! Chico Buarque

Chico Buarque (1984)
Barclay/Philips (Brazil), 1984. Very Good+
An overlooked gem from Chico's mid 80s period – a record filled with strong and subtle songs, often backed by some nicely jazz-tinged arrangements from Cristovao Bastos! The album's not as revolutionary as some of Chico's earlier records, but it more than makes up for that with an incredibly ... LP, Vinyl record album
