Dixieland, My Dixieland

LP (Item 598503) Columbia, 1956 — Condition: Very Good
Features work by George Van Eps on guitar, Eddie Miller on tenor, Matty Matlock on clarinet, and Clyde Hurley on trumpet.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(6 eye pressing with deep groove.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Duke Ellington

All American In Jazz
Columbia, 1962. Near Mint-
A lesser-known Ellington set from the 60s – tracks from the lesser-remembered musical, with alto from Johnny Hodges, trumpet from Ray Nance, and tenor from Paul Gonsalves! Titles include "Our Children", "Nightlife", "I've Just Seen Her", "Back To ... LP, Vinyl record album

Donald Byrd & Gigi Gryce

Early Byrd
Columbia, 1973. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Incredible work from the team of Donald Byrd and Gigi Gryce – crisp modern jazz, filled with soul, and never failing to swing! During the time of these recordings, Gryce was one hell of an arranger – with a tight ensemble approach that worked magic in a small combo setting. He was ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Jazz Tracks
Columbia, Late 50s. Near Mint-
Although not actually a proper album – this is still one of the greatest Miles Davis albums of all time! Side one features 10 tracks from Miles' amazing soundtrack to the film Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud – with excellent work by French players Barney Wilen, Rene Urtreger, and Pierre ... Miles Davis

ESP
Columbia, 1965. Near Mint-
An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, ... Ramsey Lewis

Love Notes
Columbia, 1977. Very Good-
A great little album of mid 70s funk from Ramsey Lewis – very much in the mode of his Earth, Wind, & Fire related work – no surprise, since the album's dedicated to Charles Stepney, whose influence was such a key part of the sound of the group, and of some of Ramsey's other Kalimba-p ... JJ Johnson

Really Livin
Columbia, 1959. Near Mint-
One of the hippest, hardest albums that trombonist JJ Johnson ever cut for Columbia – a session we'd rank right up there with his amazing JJ Inc record, and like that one a really cooking hardbop record that maybe even rivals the best on Blue Note and Prestige at the time! As with that gem, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Branford Marsalis

Scenes In The City
Columbia, 1984. Near Mint-

Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery

Further Adventures of Jimmy & Wes
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
The second great session from two of Verve's biggest jazz stars of the 60s – organist Jimmy Smith and guitarist Wes Montgomery – an unlikely pair, to be sure, but one who work great together on the set! The real change here is in Wes' playing – as it's shifted from the mellower ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laurindo Almeida & Ray Brown

Bach Ground – Blues & Greens
Century City, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An excellent session of bossa groovers with a slightly classical tinge, played by Ray Brown on bass and Laurindo Almeida on guitar. The set's got a similar feel to some of Ray's other groovy work from the time – like his remake of Jobim's score to the Adventurers. Includes the great groover ... LP, Vinyl record album
Muse, 1987. Near Mint-
A great little record by Jimmy Ponder – recorded late in the 80s, but with some nice touches that give the record more of an early 70s jazz funk groove – almost a style that hits the Prestige sound at times! John Patton's in the group on organ – making one of his best appearances ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1974. Very Good+
A compelling little record from guitarist Dom Minasi – a player we only know from these few Blue Note albums cut right toward's the label's initial run – sweet albums that might have pushed Dom further, had they gotten better exposure! Minasi's a pretty talented guitarist – with ... LP, Vinyl record album
