Memories

LP (Item 58659) Inner City, 1979 — Condition: Very Good+

A very mellow vocal set – featuring the voice of Japanese singer Yoshiko Kimura, set in a moody group led by Gary Foster. Foster plays alto, soprano, and flute on the album – but the best musical element here is Clare Fischer, who plays some nice keyboards on the best cuts – cool, mellow, and electric, sounding very nice behind Kimura's light vocals. Titles include "Alfie", "Our Day Will Come", "Sir Duke", "All In Love Is Fair", and "The Gentle Rain".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some wear with some masking tape along the spine.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Joe Lee Wilson

Without A Song
Inner City, 1969. Very Good+
A rare early gem from Joe Lee Wilson – the singer who's probably best known to the world for his performances on Archie Shepp's late Impulse recordings. The vibe here is similar to his work on Shepp's albums of the time – but it's also mixed with a hip and mellow approach that has Joe ... LP, Vinyl record album

Helen Merrill

Chasin The Bird
Inner City, 1979. Near Mint-
A nice late 70s set from Helen Merrill, with wonderfully spare accompaniment that really puts her vocals center stage – almost a return to the best mode of the landmark 50s recordings that first got her noticed! Casa Forte
Inner City, 1980. Near Mint-
A wonderful album from Helen Merrill – one of the few jazz singers we can think of who continued to grow stylistically as the years went on! It Might As Well Be Swing
Reprise, Early 60s. Very Good+
One of Sinatra's greatest records ever – pure genius all the way through! Frank's backed here by the orchestra of Count Basie, with some incredible arrangements by Quincy Jones that really have a jazzy, syncopated kick to them. The move seems to be an unintentional way of covering for Frank' ... LP, Vinyl record album

Let's Talk About Love
Warner, 1962. Very Good+
A very powerful little session from Joanie Sommers – and like most of her work from the time, one that's done in a great blend of jazz and mainstream pop! Karin Krog & Dexter Gordon

Some Other Spring – Blues & Ballads
Sonet (Sweden), 1970. Near Mint-
The icy voice of Norwegian singer Karin Krog is a perfect match for Dexter's deep soulful saxophone, and the two of them perform wonderfully together in this rare set of tracks recorded in 1970 with Kenny Drew on piano and Niel Henning Orsted-Peterson on bass. Krog has always been tremendously ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, Late 50s. Near Mint-
An excellent album of vocals by the great Joe Williams! Joe's always been a fine singer, but with Basie, he really gets the backing he needs to do his work the best.
