Julie London

LP (Item 583426) Sunset, Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Love On The Rocks
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
A record that has Julie London already hitting that great "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast" mode of later years – the adult, informed approach that showed that the teasing nude of the 50s had turned into a pleasing woman of the 60s – capable of frank presentation of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Liberty, 1967. Very Good+
Plenty of body, and even more soul – a great little groove on the record at points, in that slinky, vampy sort of mode that Julie London picked up in the 60s! The album's got Julie taking on a fair bit of R&B and bluesy numbers – still singing in her more jazz-based style, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Julie London

Make Love to Me
Liberty, 1957. Very Good-
Hard to imagine that Julie London would ever have to ask anyone to make love to her – at least not when she looks as sexy as this on the cover! The album's a key early classic for Liberty – still very fragile, personal, and up-close enough to make you think you might just be able to ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sunset, 1968. Near Mint-

Claudine Longet

Claudine
A&M, 1967. Near Mint-
French pop meets LA production – and the result is some of the best work ever recorded by A&M Records – a gently groovy, slightly sexy sound that really helped define the label in its early years! Claudine Longet's got a gentle Parisian style of singing that's perfect, simply ... LP, Vinyl record album

Singers Unlimited

Feeling Free
MPS, 1975. Near Mint-
Possibly the grooviest of many groovy albums that the Singers Unlimited cut for MPS – largely because of some great arrangements by Pat Williams! Pat gives the group a nice little zip – with some large jazzy arrangements that aren't too goofy, and which work well with their perfect ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nancy Wilson, Joe Henderson, Chick Corea, etc

Echoes Of An Era 2 – The Concert
Elektra, 1982. Near Mint-
Not only a great follow-up to the first Echoes Of An Era session, but also a standout 80s performance from Nancy Wilson – quite possibly her best of the decade! The setting is nice and laidback – a live date with a core combo that features Joe Henderson on tenor, Chick Corea on piano, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack Jones

This Love Of Mine
Capitol, 1959. Very Good+
(Mono pressing. Cover has splitting on the seams.) LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1959. Near Mint-
Very cool work from Anita O'Day – a session cut with Jimmy Giuffre arrangements, in a style that's a bit different than some of her other 50s work for Verve! Jimmy brings a nice touch of modernism to the record – casting the horns in ways that show his own love of creative colors and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bethlehem, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
This is Mel Torme's best-ever album, and it's one that we'd recommend to anyone who likes jazz vocals at all – even if you can't usually stand Mel! The Velvet Fog is backed by a great 10-piece group, led by the great Marty Paich, and featuring excellent west coast players like Pete Candoli, ... LP, Vinyl record album
