Julie London

LP (Item 583426) Sunset, Late 50s — Condition: Sealed

(Stereo pressing. Shrinkwrap is cracked halfway at the opening. Cover has a bumped corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
An overlooked gem from Julie London's early 60s years on Liberty Records – a time when she was changing up her sound a bit, but still staying strong as one of the sexiest vocalists on the west coast scene! Ernie Freeman handles the backing, and he brings in an undercurrent of soul that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yummy Yummy Yummy
Liberty, 1969. Very Good+
A very unusual album for Julie London – one of her few recordings ever to break the more traditional jazz format, and go for a mod sort of swinging 60s sound! Love Letters
Liberty, 1962. Near Mint-
A set that has Julie London still working in the breathy and mellow style of her late 50s classics – with very spare backings that really let Julie's vocals take center stage, and often a nice guitar line in the front of the mix, picking its way through the tunes right behind Julie's voice! ... Liberty, 1965. Sealed
Near-lost work from Julie London – a later album for Liberty, the kind of record that should have become a classic – had she not recorded so much at the time that they got buried in the rush of all her releases! Whatever Julie Wants
Liberty, 1961. Very Good+
Money, minks, and a diamond tiara – whatever Julie wants, it's pretty well laid out in the album's cover image! Her Point Of View
Cadet, 1968. Very Good
Clea was one of a host of hip female singers that Chess was trying to bring up in the late 60s – and although she was less successful than bigger stars like Fontella Bass or Marlena Shaw, this album's in very much the same mode as some of the best Cadet female soul, with arrangements by ... MPS, 1978. Near Mint-
One of the greatest albums ever recorded by this hip vocal ensemble – set to arrangements by leader Gene Puerling, and some very swinging instrumental backings by Rob McConnell!
