Exotica

LP (Item 548964) Cameo, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Features Phil Bodner on flute, Frances Corsi on harp, and Eddie Costa on vibes! Titles include "Return To Paradise", "Pool Of Love", "Mahaka", "Baia", "Voodoo Moon", and "Adventures In Paradise".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing. Cover has some edge wear on the top and bottom seams, and light staining on the back.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Martin Denny

Afro-Desia
Liberty, 1959. Near Mint-
Weird and wonderful work from the great Martin Denny – and a record that adds in some great extra elements to his core exotica groove! The depth of the album is apparent on the very first tune – "Tsetse Fly", which features a buzzing variation on the sound of the insect in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carmen Cavallaro

With That Latin Beat
Decca, 1959. Very Good+
The frenzied piano of Carmen Cavallaro gets a nice does of Latin rhythms on this set – and the set's a great example of the way that cocktail piano and Latin were strongly linked in the New York scene of the 50s! Carmen's style here is certainly different than that of Joe Loco, Noro Morales, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mariachi Brass with Chet Baker

Taste Of Tequila
World Pacific, 1966. Near Mint-
A strange 60s chapter in the career of trumpeter Chet Baker – but one that we sure like a heck of a lot! These sides were recorded as an answer to the big success of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass over at A&M Records – and for the sessions, Chet's trumpet was backed by jaunty, ... Martin Denny

Exotic Love
Liberty, 1968. Near Mint-
An overlooked gem from Martin Denny – cut during a range of later sides for Liberty Records, but somehow a standout, thanks to some soulful undercurrents in the music! The arranger is billed as Harold Johnson – who may well be the same cat leading the groovy sextet over on Revue ... LP, Vinyl record album

Juju Music
Mango, 1982. Near Mint-
King Sunny Ade's first major label LP, that helped him bring his juju music to the world.
