Tribute To Duke – Recorded Live In Basel, Switzerland

LP (Item 534344) MPS, 1969 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
...

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

MPS (Japan), 1971. Near Mint-
A great bit of 70s hardbop from MPS – a set that has both Al Cohn and James Moody on tenors, set up in a wonderful combo that features Barry Harris on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Roy Jones on drums! The recording quality is at the usual high standard for MPS – although the set was ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eugen Cicero

Rokoko-Jazz
MPS, 1965. Near Mint-
One of the greatest jazz-meets-classical albums from pianist Eugen Cicero – thanks to a good amount of Rokoko in the grooves! The more flowery, flourishing style of the Rokoko era proves to be a perfect foil for Cicero's incredible approach to the keys – one that lets him bring even ... LP, Vinyl record album
MPS (Germany), 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the wildest albums ever recorded by French tenorist Barney Wilen – a mix of avant jazz and sound effects, set to wax in tribute to Lorenzo Bandini – a famous Italian racer who died tragically during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix! Wilen was an automobile enthusiast in the late 60s, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Rosolino & Conte Candoli

Conversation
MPS (Germany), 1975. Near Mint-
Although Rosolino and Candoli were shining brightest during the late 50s west coast scene, this 1975 MPS session shows that they still could play quite strongly when encouraged! The encouragement here comes from a live crowd at Munich's Domicile, where the set was recorded – and from some ... LP, Vinyl record album

Erwin Lehn

Color In Jazz
MPS (Germany), 1973. Very Good+
One of the all-time classic MPS sessions! Erwin Lehn leads a very tight grooving combo that mixes hard big group arrangements (in the style of the Clarke-Boland or Peter Herbholzheimer groups), with some extremely powerful solos and very inventive arrangements. There's lots of wonderful little ... LP, Vinyl record album

Clarke Boland Big Band

All Blues
MPS (Germany), 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
An excellent Clarke Boland Big Band LP – very much in the spirit of the group's best work of the era – one that uses the blues of the title merely as springboard for their ebullient big band groove! The album featuring a stellar array of soloists, including Tony Coe on clarinet, Sahib ... LP, Vinyl record album

Two older greats from the MPS label scene of the 70s – coming together here in a later set that shows a wonderful maturation of their talents! As You Like It
MPS (Germany), 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold
As you like it – and we like it plenty! The album's a stunner from pianist Friedrich Gulda – one that still shows plenty of his high-powered, high-technique roots – but one that also really has him opening up a bit, too – almost bringing in a dose of soul jazz from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Oscar Peterson

Lee Morgan

Sidewinder
Blue Note, 1964. Very Good+
A jazz classic if there ever was one – and the best-selling album ever by Lee Morgan, thanks to the use of the title track in a car commercial! Sure, you've probably heard "The Sidewinder" enough that you think you know the album already – but the rest of the tunes really ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1961/1962. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A great Blue Note 2-fer from the 70s – one that features the first issue of the album Here To Stay, plus the classic Hub Cap!
