Round Midnight

LP (Item 520043) Capitol, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
(Stereo rainbow label pressing. Includes Capitol inner sleeve. Cover has a split spine, spliting on the top seam.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Frank Sinatra

Point Of No Return
Capitol, 1961. Near Mint-
Sinatra's final album for Capitol – a contemplative set of tracks that reunites him with arranger Alex Stordahl, a frequent partner during the Columbia years, and an artist who's matured as much as Frank by this point, making a perfect fit for the sadder tone of the material. Tracks are in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peggy Lee

Man I Love
Capitol, 1957. Near Mint-
Quite a rare album from Peggy Lee – and a strange one too! The album features backings "conducted" by Frank Sinatra, done in a moody, flowing, dreamy and sad style – similar to his own work of the late 50s Capitol years, especially the more melancholy albums that we love so ... Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good+

Dinah Shore

Somebody Loves Me
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
Warm Capitol magic from Dinah Shore – a singer we sometimes forget about, then fall in love with all over again when we hear a record like this! Shore's got a sound that's unlike anyone else we can think of – a sense of flow that really sets her apart, and a way of being slightly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nat King Cole

To Whom It May Concern
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
A great late album from Nat King Cole – one done with some wonderfully rich arrangements by Nelson Riddle, which unlock all the poise and class that Cole had developed during his 50s decade at Capitol Records! There's definitely a slight ear here towards the Johnny Mathis sound that was ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nat King Cole

Welcome To The Club
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
One of our favorite albums by Nat King Cole – done with a bit more depth and feeling than some of his other Capitol sets of the time – and some great jazzy backings, too! Arrangements are by Dave Cavanaugh, but there's almost a Basie-like quality to the group at times – never too ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1962. Near Mint-
Pure crooning genius from Vic Damone – with fresh arrangements from Capitol maestro Jack Marshall! Marshall's work in the studio was often playful – sometimes a bit too much so, as on his own instrumental albums – but here he brings out a real boldness in Damone's voice, a ... Vic Damone

Lively Ones
Capitol (UK), Early 60s. Near Mint-
A gem of a set from Vic Damone – swinging backings by Billy May, with titles that include "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Ruby", "Little Girl", "The Lively Ones", and "I Want A Little Girl". LP, Vinyl record album

Robert Mitchum

Calypso Is Like So
Capitol, 1958. Very Good+
Robert Mitchum singing calypso? Stranger things have happened, sure – and it's not so surprising when you read that Mitchum was actually a huge devotee of the music, and took his work in the genre very seriously. This great set was first issued by Capitol in the late 50s – and it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dick Haymes

Rain Or Shine
Capitol, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Sublime work from vocalist Dick Haymes – a singer who's best known for his early 40s work with big bands, but who reinvented himself tremendously during the 50s! Haymes is heard here in a spare, somber, very late nite style – somewhat boozy, and easily rivaling the work of Sinatra ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carmen Lundy

Good Morning Kiss
Blackhawk, 1985. Near Mint-
A fantastic record – one of the best jazz vocal records of the 80s, and a real bright spot in an otherwise dim decade! The set is Carmen's debut – and it's a masterful self-produced effort that immediately put her in the ranks of the ultra-hip, ultra-soulful jazz crowd – singers ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bethlehem, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Hip vocalist Bobby Troup pays tribute to another fairly hip LA songwriter – the great Johnny Mercer, the man who helped to build Capitol Records in the late 40s! Mercer's tunes really helped pave the way for some of Troup's own writing – and Bobby's cool, laidback style makes the ... LP, Vinyl record album
