CD

An amazing set from Alison Crockett – a record that's as striking as the title and image on the cover! Alison's really come into her own here – emerging as a fully-formed soul star on her own – with no help from other remixers or soundsystems, just totally grooving on her own! As much as we loved her On Becoming A Woman album, this set is even better – a fantastic batch of original compositions that are filled with jazz, soul, and a hell of a lot of feeling – all with a sense of freshness that shows us that real soul music can still exist in world free from cliches, gimmicks, or heavy posturing. The depth here is simply tremendous – and although we always expect a lot from Alison, this album's really left us breathless – and with even greater respect for her than before. Titles include "So Sweet", "Everything Is Beautiful", "Anything", "We Are", "How Deep Is Your Love", "Baby Smile", "Everytime I'm With You", "Love Is Just A Word", and a great cover of "Love Is Stronger Than Pride".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, cover has light wear.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Urbanicity, 2004. Used
A bold statement from this ambitious Chicago group – a righteous assemblage of musicians working in a tradition that's partly linked to the spiritual jazz of an earlier AACM era, but which is also keenly conscious of the underground soul of groups like Fertile Ground! At its core, there's a ... CD

Macy Gray's steps to a higher level on The Id – this is no "sophomore slump" to our ears – actually a helluva lot better than her big selling debut! As on her first set, Macy's vocals are wonderful – totally unique, with that warm raspy soulful style that makes her one ... CD

Lizz Wright

Dreaming Wide Awake
Verve, 2005. Used
The second outing from vocalist Lizz Wright – done in the same sweetly folksy style as her debut, but in a way that seems to have even more of a focus overall. The backing on the set is especially nice – mostly just spare keyboards, bass, and drums, plus some great work on acoustic ... CD
Sony, 1994. Used
A killer of an album from Jamiroquai – the first time we really sat up and took notice, and said "hey, these guys are onto something good!" The record's pretty darn great all the way through – a warm batch of tunes that starts with a classic 70s mode that's part Stevie Wonder ... CD

Stankonia
LaFace, 2000. Used
Probably the most hyped hip hop album by rock critics of the last decade – but don't hold that against Stankonia, because these ghetto grooves from planet P-Funk were exactly what world needed in 2000! The millenium blowout party jam feel throughout is surely a nice change of pace from all ... CD
