Searching For My Love/Hey Mr DJ

7-inch (Item 45118) Checker, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good-
Out Of Stock

7-inch, Vinyl record

A killer from Bobby Moore! Sure, he's best known for the classic southern soul number "Searching For My Love" – but the one we die for is "Hey Mr DJ", a slow vamping instrumental with a honking tenor all over the top, and bubbling organ and really heavy drums underneath. The cut's a fantastic stepper, a bit like the best work from Joe Dukes!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Maroon label pressing. Vinyl has a number of light marks but plays great.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Vibrations

Watusi/Wallflower
Checker, Early 60s. Very Good
"Watusi" is a classic groover from The Vibrations – a slowly dancing number with a hard-sock groove, one of the group's best early cuts! "Wallflower" is more uptempo, tighter harmonies and a smoother groove – kind of a sing-song playful number, with raw vocals on ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Eddy Senay

Safari/Sarko East
Sussex, 1973. Near Mint-
Nice choppy funky guitars from the fuzzy mind of Eddy Senay. "Safari"'s got a nice jungle funk feel, and "Sarko East" is a little bit jazzier. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Alvin Cash & The Registers

Doin' The Ali Shuffle/Feel So Good
Mar V Lus, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Alvin Cash pays tribute to Cassius Clay – screaming his way through the cut in a way that pre-dates most other Ali tribute songs, grooving away in that hard funky groove that you'd find on his best 60s work. "Feel So Good" is great, too – a heavy R&B stomper with a "T ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Frankie Karl & The Dreams

I'm So Glad/Don't Be Afraid (Do As I Say)
DC Sound Ltd, Late 60s. Very Good-
Great harmony soul! Both cuts are stellar – with that kind of spare, post-doo wop 60s soul harmony sound that we love to death. The production is by Gene Dozier, and Frankie Karl's vocals really send us! A great lost winner! 7-inch, Vinyl record
DC International, 1974. Near Mint-
Great stuff from one of the 70s' best vocal groups! "Seems Like" is stone mellow east coast harmony soul, with a sweet ballad style. "Town Called Nowhere" is even better, and has a nice choppy guitar, and a good midtempo groove. Very nice! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Shock, 1977. Near Mint-
A sweet little single – with a warm harmony vocals, and a production style that's slightly southern, with touches of Miami mid 70s soul, especially in the electric keyboards behind the vocals, and the moogy lines that occasionally float to the top. 7-inch, Vinyl record

"Don't Boom Boom" is a nice little fast funky number – grooving a lot like some of Vicki Anderson's work from the early 70s, tight bass and guitar dancing around some hard soul vocals that are very much in line with the beat! "Signs" is a pretty nice soul track, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
