A darn hard to find album by James – one with a tight soulful R&B groove that just about never lets up! Even on these early albums, James had a great raw sound, with a kind of funk that wasn't his trademark 70s sound, but which is still nice and tasty. Titles include "Shout & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heavy duty instrumentals from this legendary Detroit tenor giant! This album's one of Jr's best – recorded with a rawer tone than later work, almost a mixture of funky 45 and R&B grooving. Motown favorites like "Come See About Me" and "What Does It Take To Win Your ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great set from a group who should have been huge – a surprisingly well put-together vocal trio, featuring lead vocals from Limon Wilson, and great harmonies from Derrell Jackson and Joe Williams! There's a definite groove on most numbers, but it's usually quite far from the stiffer sounds ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little soul album from this obscure west coast trio – a really wonderful group with two male singers and one girl – coming together here in a mix of sweet harmony numbers and upbeat groovers! Norman Connors produced, and he gives the group a really great sound on the set – ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the two early Earth Wind & Fire LPs recorded for Warner – and the one that shows their amazing roots in the avant-garde jazz scene in Chicago. At the forefront, the record's a righteous soul album with an ensemble funk sound – but deeper in, there's a lot of jazz-based ... LP, Vinyl record album
An archetypal album by Roy – and one that really shows him at the turning point of his sound! Gone are the trippier jazz funk moments of earlier albums – and in their place are some tight grooves and wonderfully spacey soul. Roy hits the dancefloor with one of his first up-tempo funk ...
