Soldier Of Love

LP (Item 41504) Ace (UK), Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-
A great compilation of work by the highly under-recognized Arthur Alexander! Although some know Alexander's big hit "You Better Move On", there's a huge body of work from the same time that's every bit as great. His work is an excellent mix of deep soul with ersatz C&W production, and represents some of the earliest work in the southern soul genre. The whole thing has a very classic feel, with Arthur's deep deep vocals upfront all the time, and loads of great cuts like "Keep Her Guessing", "Call Me Lonesome", "Hey Baby", "After You", "Whole Lot Of Trouble", "All I Need Is You", and "Soldier Of Love", included here in an unreleased version.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Teen Queens

Rock Everybody
Ace (UK), Late 50s. Near Mint-
The Teen Queens were a hip R&B duo who deserve a lot more credit than their silly name might make you think. They had a style that was part raw R&B, and part 60s girl group, years before the girl group format was around long enough to become a cliche! LP, Vinyl record album

The debut album from Maxayn – a funky female talent who deserves to be mentioned in the same territory as Betty Davis and Yvonne Fair! Originals

California Sunset
Motown, 1975. Very Good+
One of our favorite albums by The Originals – and one of their most coherent albums on Motown! The record was produced by Lamont Dozier, who also wrote all the songs on the album for the group – and it's kind of a mix of Dozier's strident 70s update of the 60s Motown groove (which he'd ... Willie Tee

Anticipation
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
Mid 70's album of funky soul tracks cut by ex-Gator Willie Tee, with a number of other members of the Gators, for United Artists. Don't go thinking that it's raw New Orleans soul, though, because the sound is a lot more polished, with more of a 70's modern groove to it. Willie's still got some ... LP, Vinyl record album
