❔

Blue-eyed soul from Boz Scaggs, with a decidedly Philly influenced sound to the production, which we'd hazard a guess comes more from the Hall & Oates side of town than the Sigma Sound axis. Still, this is a solid album with the irresistible hit "Lowdown", still a favorite around these parts. Also includes "Lido Shuffle", "Harbor Lights", "Jump Street" and "What Do You Want The Girl To Do".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Later pressing in a barcode cover, with light surface wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Boz Scaggs

Boz Scaggs & Band
Columbia, 1971. Near Mint-
Early blue eyed soul work from Boz Scaggs – an album that's got a lot more rootsy touches than some of his bigger crossover hits! At one level, the album seems to have a Bay Area-styled approach – genre-blending soul, R&B, and rock influences into a sound that proudly steps forth ... LP, Vinyl record album

Earth Wind & Fire

Gratitude
Columbia, 1975. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Great stuff! Although a live album, Gratitude is one of Earth Wind & Fire's greatest from the mid 70s – a very tight batch of grooves that proves that Maurice White & Co. could play just as well on stage as they could in the studio – and the noise of the crowd going wild is ... Columbia, Mid 70s. Near Mint-
Fantastic stuff through and through – and almost a "best of" best of collection from the 70s! The album's a key illustration of the genius of Earth Wind & Fire on Columbia Records – because by the time the set was released in 1978, most of the tracks were already well-know ... Earth Wind & Fire

Touch The World
Columbia, 1987. Very Good+
Earth Wind & Fire touch the world with this sweet batch of grooves – a set of tracks that has them firmly embracing the electric sound of 80s soul, yet still bringing in some light spiritual touches of their own! The beats are pretty heavy at points – making for plenty of groovers ... LP, Vinyl record album

Deniece Williams

My Melody

Titles include "It's Your Conscience", "My Melody", "Silly", "What Two Can Do", "All That Matters", and "Suspicious". LP, Vinyl record album

Chambers Brothers

New Generation
Columbia, 1970. Sealed
Kind of a messed-up album, with a bit few too many styles running through the mix – but still with some pretty great moments! The best of these is the track "Funky", which has an amazing drum sound, especially on the intro, which has been sampled famously by Tribe Called Quest. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luther Vandross

Any Love
Columbia, 1988. Near Mint-
Lean, clean work from Luther Vandross – an album of gentle grooves and warmly romantic tones – offered up as part of Luther's hit run in the 80s! The sound is quite electric at times, but Vandross' vocals provide enough human warmth to offset the beats and keyboards – and given ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luther Vandross

Your Secret Love
Columbia, 1996. Very Good+
Nothing secret about Luther Vandross at this point in his career – as the album's part of his huge mainstream run in the 90s – with a strongly crossover sound to match! At points, the record verges on adult contemporary themes and backings – but Luther's vocals remain solidly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnnie Taylor

Rated Extraordinaire
Columbia, 1977. Very Good+
Our favorite album ever from Johnnie Taylor – an incredible set from the late 70s that really has Taylor reinventing his sound – and coming across as a great talent for a mellow groove! The album has a wonderful smooth soul vibe all the way through – and starts with the classic ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chocolate City, 1978. Very Good
One of our favorite Cameo albums of all time – a record that still has the group sounding plenty funky, but also maybe hitting a more sophisticated one – one that comes through perfectly on the message-oriented title track! There's a sense of compression going on here – ... LP, Vinyl record album
People, 1973. Very Good
An incredible album – a landmark piece of funk that nobody should be without, funk fan or not! The album is the second to feature James Brown's famous backing combo of the early 70s – and unlike their first one, which was really more of a collection of singles, this album has the group ...
