Live In New Orleans

LP (Item 35428) Capitol, 1981 — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

A live album from the mighty Frankie Beverly and Maze – and a set that's every bit as important as their studio classics for Capitol Records! It's always a sign of how huge Frankie Beverly was during the 80s that Capitol let him cut not one, but two double live albums during the early part of the decade – and this one, his first, has the band grooving wonderfully before a crowd going mad in the Crescent City – while the group keep all the perfection, sharp grooves, and sophisticated soul that they had on record! The songs retain all the charm of the studio renditions – and are stretched out a bit more in the live setting, with some really nice interplay with the crowd – who are clearly going nuts in the presence of the group. Titles include the famous live version of "Joy & Pain" – sampled heavily back in the day – plus other classics that include live takes on "Happy Feelins", "Southern Girl", "Look At California", "Before I Let Go", "We Need Love To Love", "The Look In Your Eyes", "Running Away", "Reason", "Feel That You're Fallin", "You", and "Changing Times".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original purple label pressing. Cover has some ring and edge wear, a sticker spot, and a stuck gatefold.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Blood Brother
Capitol/Haven, 1974. Very Good+
A strange little soul album – produced and written by the team of Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, with arrangements by Michael Omartian, and an overall sound that's kind of a mixture of soul and more baroque type backings. The whole thing's not bad overall – but it does lack the punch ... LP, Vinyl record album

Let's Get It On
Motown, 1973. Very Good- Gatefold
An amazing record that stunned the world almost as much as Marvin's previous effort, What's Going On. Stuff It
Warner/Just Sunshine, 1979. Near Mint-
Late 70s soul fusion from masters of the groove – perhaps the best ever by the late 70s supergroup Stuff – featuring a core group that includes Cornell Dupree, Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, and Richard Tee! Karen Pree

We only know Karen from this one album, but she's got a heck of a nice voice – one with a full range and jazzy richness that should have made her a much bigger star. A sweet 70s session from The Chambers Brothers – one that's more electric and less rootsy than before, and which gets some nice pop soul arrangements from Tony Camillo! TK, Late 70s. Sealed
Sweetly soaring disco from the legendary Celi Bee – easily one of our favorite disco divas of the late 70s!
