Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley

LP (Item 32701) Capitol, Mid 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

The sweet vocals of Nancy join the classic Cannonball quintet for a great set of soul jazz tunes that was one of Capitol's biggest selling jazz sides in the 60s! About half the cuts feature Nancy on vocals – on tunes like "Save Your Love For Me", "Never Will I Marry", "Happy Talk", and "The Masquerade Is Over" – and the other half feature Cannon's group playing instrumentally – on cuts like "Teaneck", "One Man's Dream", and "Never Say Yes". Pop, but hip – nice and hip!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Rainbow label stereo pressing. Cover has some wear and aging, small sticker at the top right corner, and some splitting in the seams.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Frank Sinatra

Swingin Affair
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good-
A Swingin Affair indeed – as the album's one of our favorite ever from Frank's Capitol years! Nelson Riddle shows here that he can be just as great on the uptempo numbers as he is on the ballads – and casts Sinatra's full rich vocals into a great set of older swinging tunes. Frank ... Frank Sinatra

Only The Lonely
Capitol, 1958. Very Good+
One of Frank Sinatra's last great ballad albums for Capitol – a sad and dreamy batch of tunes that kicks off with the incredible "Only The Lonely" – one of those Sinatra torch songs that's so great, so sad, nobody else has ever been able to record a better version, nor have ... Nellie Lutcher

Real Gone! (80s pressing)
Capitol, 1950s. Near Mint-
A bit jazz, a bit R&B, and swingin all the way through – the great Nellie Lutcher was one of the better singers of her generation, and it's a darn shame that she's not as well remembered as some of her other postwar musical contemporaries. This set was cut for Capitol during the early ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Sinatra

Come Swing With Me!
Capitol, 1961. Near Mint-
One of Frank's liveliest albums for Capitol – a return to the harder-swinging mode of the early and mid 50s, after a wealth of sadder albums in the later part of the decade. Backings are by Billy May – in that brassy mode he used at the time, one that kept the tunes hiply grooving, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good-
Great work from singer Donna Hightower – a vocalist who'd later express herself in a much wider range, but who's already great here in a more jazz-styled mode! LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
A later Capitol gem by June – where she reprisies a number of classics from her early years with Stan Kenton – new versions of late 40s tunes, done here with Pete Rugolo arrangements that go a good way towards showing how both he and June had grown during the 50s. My Fair Lady
Capitol, 1964. Sealed
Late Nat King Cole – an album from the early 60s for Capitol, featuring expansive arrangements from Ralph Carmichael! One More Time!
ABC, 1966. Very Good-
One of Della's grooviest records, and a great little live set – recorded at the Playboy Club in Hollywood, with backing by the soulful Bobby Bryant Quintet. Reprise, 1967. Near Mint-
A beautiful little album that shows a whole new side of Sinatra! Frank's a bit late on the bossa game – but the record's a wonderfully gentle batch of bossa nova tunes, performed with musical and occasional vocal accompaniment by Jobim, and larger orchestral backings by Claus Ogerman.
