Greasy Spoon

LP (Item 32640) King, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Wailing organ jazz from the great Hank Marr – and possibly his greatest album! The record's got a very strong jazz feel – without as much as the R&B of some of Marr's other albums on King – and the tracks are a well-composed batch of originals that capture all the excitement of Marr's live combo playing at the time. Production is great, with some occasional echoey touches – and the record's filled with tons of nice numbers like "The Push", "Tonk Game", "Easy Talk", "Silver Spoon", "Greasy Spoon", and "A Mellow Thing".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing – in great shape. Cover has a cutout hole, but no splits – very nice.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Summertime
CTI/A&M, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold
A perfect complement to Paul's other early CTI album – From The Hot Afternoon – and like that one, this album's a swirling match of tracks that mix together bossa rhythms, jazzy orchestrations, and Desmond's impeccably sharp alto sax.
