Rumplestiltskin

LP (Item 31423) Bell, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
An excellent rock album with lots of funky breaks, and some very very heavy drums by Rupert Baer! The set was put together by Shel Talmy, but he also got some help from the great Alan Hawkshaw, of funky KPM and Serge Gainsbourg fame – who seems to hone the record into a groove that goes way beyond its initial potential! The overall concept is a bit silly – as you might guess from the cover – and although some of the lyrics are lackluster, the record more than makes up for it with the mix of drums, bass, and organ in the instrumental sections – and there's more than a few nice moments here to please the beatheads! Tracks include "Make Me Make You", "No One To Turn To", "Squadron Leader Johnson", "Pate De Foie Gras", and "Knock On My Door".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

It takes a record like this one to remind us just what a magical crossover time the post-disco, post-punk days of the early 80s could be!
