John Young was one of a tight core of Chicago soul jazz pianists who strongly influenced that city's jazz tradition. This first LP on Argo is still his best, and it's a darn tough record to find in nice shape. The tracks are simple piano trio material, and a number of them are standards, but Young's liveliness and warmth shows how much a well-traveled piano player could open up in a setting like this.
