✈
Early work as a leader by British jazz pianist Alan Clare – a key part of the swinging sound of the London jazz scene of the late 50s, and a really moody player with a nice touch on the keys! The album Jazz Around The Clock was recorded at Clare's home base – the Star Club in London – in a style that features a unique "after hours" sort of mode, one in which guest horn players drop by the session, and make appearances on a few of the tracks. Don Rendell joins the group on a great reading of "I'm Old Fashioned", trumpeter Ray Premru plays bass trumpet on the track "Everything Happens To Me", and alto saxophonist Bob Burns blows a nice icy solo on a version of "Yesterday". The core trio features Clare on piano, Kenny Napper on bass, and either Eddie Taylor or Bobby Kevin on drums – and other tracks include Clare's "Luxury Flat", plus "Drop Me Off At Harlem", "Morning Fun", and "There's A Lull In My Life". The CD also features 4 more tracks from Clare's debut LP – featuring the core trio of Clare, bassist Lenny Bush, and drummer Tony Kinsey joined by bass clarinetist Bob Burns on a set of tracks that includes "Sometimes I'm Happy", "How Long Has This Been Going On", and "Easy Living". And if that's not enough, the CD also features 2 more bonus tracks from that session, plus one with a quartet that includes Ike Issacs on guitar – titles that include another reading of "Luxury Flat", plus "Manhattan", and "Lullaby In Rhythm".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
