Great Time

CD (Item 161750) Video Arts (Japan), 2006 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

✈
Soaring work from Japanese pianist Fumio Karashima – a talent we loved back in the 70s, and who still sounds pretty great here! Fumio's playing in a loose trio with Jack DeJohnette on drums and Drew Gress on bass – working through longish tracks that recall the sound of his earlier work, but which also show a bit more of an ear for gentler sounds and introspection. Original tunes are all great – and include "Like Blues For JD", "Quiet Moment", "Those Years With Elvin", and "Brilliant Darkness" – and the set also features great versions of Chick Corea's "Straight Up & Down" and Herbie Hancock's "Just Enough".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Benny Golson

Brown Immortal
Video Arts (Japan), 1997. Used
Always-great work from Benny Golson – one of the few talents from the 50s who can still catch fire on a modern jazz recording! The title might make you think the set's a tribute to Clifford Brown, but it's more of a set of tightly arranged tracks that recall the fresh Modern Touch-era sound ... CD

Beautiful Friendship

McCoy Tyner

Prelude & Sonata
Video Arts/Keystone (Japan), 1995. Used
Understated genius from McCoy Tyner – and exactly the sort of record that shows why his catalog is always worth searching out! The album's got a lot more subtlety than his immediate post-Coltrane sides of the 70s – righteousness maybe a bit more on the backburner, but not so much so ... CD

David Matthews

Shoogie Wanna Boogie
Kudu/King (Japan), 1976. Used
One of the slickest of Dave Matthews' funk records from the 70s – but still pretty darn nice! Matthews was the mainman behind the legendary funk group The Grodeck Whipperjenny, and a key arranger in James Brown's sound of the Polydor years – but by this time, he moved into smoother ... CD

Fugees

Score
Columbia, 1996. Used
The record that really broke The Fugees out of the box – not their debut, but the album where everything really came together – especially the fantastic mix of vocals and MC work that Lauryn Hill brought to the group! The album was a key bridge between hip hop and soul back in the day ... CD
