✨✧ VariousKeb Darge & Paul Weller Present Lost & Found – Real R&B Sound ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 50s/1960s/Early 70s. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A fantastic compilation of stirring soul, raw r&b, and all around amazing group and solo numbers from the first wave years of the 50s onward into the 70s – put together by impeccable taste maker Keb Darge and the unstoppable, soul reverent Paul Weller! This second Lost & Found set from BBE picks up on strains of the original set, which was compiled by Darge & Cut Chemist and focused on jump blues & rockabilly. This one touches on the former, but brings in boundless soul numbers in place of the latter, from stripped down r&b, to soaring group soul harmonies, to more arranged numbers that still carry a gritty soul spirit. 15 selections by Keb Darge and 13 selections by Paul Weller for 28 tracks in all! Darge's choice selections include "They Call Me Big Momma" by Big Mama Thornton, "Come On Back" by Brothers Of Soul, "You Don't Love Me" by Epitome Of Sound", "A Dream" by The Creations, "I Want You" by The Cadets, "Don't Forget To Remember" by The Great Experience and more. Paul Weller's choice jams include "Hang On There" by The Intruders, "All I Do Is Think About You" by Tammi Terrell, "Wear It On Your Face" by The Dells, "Ain't No Big Thing" by The Radiants, "The Ice-Man" by Billy Watkins, "I Got Love If You Want It" by Slim Harpo and more. ✨✧ VariousLegendary Wild Rockers 2 – A Collection Of Rare Rockabilly & Surf From The 50s & Early 60s – Compiled By Keb Darge & Little Edith ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wild sounds from the early years of rock and roll – a heady brew of guitar-heavy instrumentals, soulful stompers, and more – all pulled from the hinterland of the rare 45 underground! The tunes here go way past familiar oldies – and even past the sorts of sounds that usually show up on surf compilations – because, as he does with funk records, Keb Darge has a great ear for the unusual – the sorts of odd platters that have always show up in his best record digging and DJ gigs – laid out perfectly here in a really overstuffed collection! Keb turns in nice notes on each track – and titles include "Honey Bun" by Larry Donn, "Ghost Train" by The Swanks, "I Don't Wanna Leave" by Deacon & The Rock & Rollers, "Gorilla" by The Shandells, "She's The One That Got It" by Allen Page, "Madness" by Rhythm Rockers, "Woodpecker Rock" by The Braves, "Let's Dance" by The Excels, "Bad Bad Boy" by Bobby Lollar, and "Lobo Jones" by Jackie Gotroe. ✨✧ VariousKeb Darge & Cut Chemist Present The Dark Side – 30 Sixties Garage Punk & Psyche Monsters ... CD
BBE (UK), Mid 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest collections we've heard from Keb Darge in years – not the funk and soul he first gave us when he started putting compilations together, nor the rockabilly and R&B from more recent years – and instead a fantastic array of rare late 60s garage rock and freaky fuzz singles! The set's tone in collaboration with Cut Chemist – another DJ we'd never expect to know this music so well – and together, the pair turn their talent for rare record digging to an arena that never seems to get old – the under-underground of the pre-hippy years, with a stunning selection of tracks by artists who worked in the deep shadows beneath bigger acts like Count Five, The Seeds, or Standells. Half the record is collected by Cut Chemist, the other by Keb – and the package features a whopping 30 tracks in all, most of which we'd never heard before! Titles include "Cry" by The Malibus, "Cuttin Grass" by Caretakers Of Deception, "Project Blue" by The Banshees, "Slander" by Ty Wagner, "Suzy Creamcheese" by Teddy & His Patches, "Nowadays People" by Captain Crunch & The Crew, "Go On Leave" by Red Beard & The Pirates, "In & Out" by Larry & The Blue Notes, "Why Am I Alone"by The Choab, "Can It Be" by The Savoys, "Modman" by The Spacemen, "Baby Go" by The Avantes, "Just Let Me Be" by The Outsiders, and "Come On Baby & Stick Around" by Al's Untouchables. ✨✧ VariousLegendary Wild Rockers 4 – Compiled By Keb Darge & Little Edith – A Collection Of Rare Rockabilly & Surf From The Fifties & Sixties ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 1950s/Early 1960s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A storming mix of R&B, early soul, and rare rockers – all hand-picked by the famous team of Keb Darge and Little Edith! We first knew Keb as an expert in raw funk over 20 years ago – back at a time when few DJs cared about the style – and you can definitely hear Keb's funk-trained ears at work here – as the tunes are all plenty raw and filled with sharp edges – way way different than any mainstream assumptions you might have about rock or soul from this time! The vibe is similar to some of the best Cramps-fueled compilations, or some of the hipper Norton titles – and titles include "Get Whiz" by The Dazzlers, "Jam & Jelly" by The Col-Lee Jets, "Shis Kebab" by The Black Albinos, "Dance Franny Dance" by The Floyd Dakil Combo, "Nervous Breakdown" by Gregory Dee & The Avanties, "Steady With Betty" by Benny Joy, "Please Give Me Something" by Bill Allen & The Back Beats, and "The Shake" by George Fleming. ✨✧ VariousKeb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk Vol 1 ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 60s/1970s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Brit DJ Keb Darge is (and has been for years) one of the world's foremost experts on the funky 45. This masterful comp put together by the folks at BBE brings together an amazing collection of rare tracks lost to the world – nearly all of which have never appeared on other comps of this sort of stuff. Excellent all the way through, with a masterful selection of tracks like "Quit Jive'in" by Pearly Queen, "Gimme Some Skin" by Frank Penn, "Zambezi" by The Fun Company, "Who Dun It" by The Originals Orchestra, and "The First Thing I Do In the Morning" by Joyce Williams. Great all the way through, and compiled with a feel that makes you think you're spending time at some great club night in London! Stormin funkiness! CD
