Rolf & Joachim KuhnMonday Morning ... LP
Black Label (Germany), 1969. Very Good+ ... $74.99
Great funky avant work from this mad German duo – sounding very much here as they do on their Mad Rockers mode! The lineup features work from John Surman on baritone, Eje Thelin on trombone, Barre Phillips on bass, and both Stu Martin and Jacques Thollot on drums – one in each channel! LP, Vinyl record album
(Bottom cover seam is unglued – but this is a very nice copy.)

✨✧ Rolf & Joachim KuhnImpressions Of New York ... LP
Impulse, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the most expressive albums ever from German jazzmen Rolf and Joachim Kuhn – an obscure American date cut for Impulse Records in the late 60s! This session pairs the Kuhn brothers – on clarinet and piano, respectively – with John Coltrane's bassist Jimmy Garrison and Italian drummer Aldo Romano – a really global mix of musicians, with sounds that definitely show that reach of talents! Unlike some of their other recordings, which at their most out explored some of the further reaches of modal playing, this is quite free, with an unrelenting momentum that never seems to lose steam even in the contemplative moments, probably inspired by the fever pitch the "New Thing" was generating on the New York scene in the mid 60s. The improvisations don't ever trade their intuitive sense for outright noise – and the two side long parts of the New York suite are divided into sections: "Arrival", "The Saddest Day", "Reality", and "Predictions". ✨✧ Rolf & Joachim KuhnKuhn Brothers & The Mad Rockers ... LP
Metronome (Germany), 1969. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Nice bit of funky fusion from these 2 German brothers. Rolf plays electric clarinet on this session, and it sounds nice and sharp next to his brother's organ and alto solos. Volker Kreigel's playing guitar, and at this point, he's still playing with a lot of tightness, and less of the rock-like playing that marred some of his later work. The set was recorded in Hamburg, in 1968, and released in the 70's by Claude Delcloo on one of his French labels. Includes the cuts "Night Time Girl", "Going West", "Rocking Chair To The Moon", "I'm A Jew", and "Getting The Point". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Rolf Kuhn Group featuring Phil WoodsDay After (US pressing) ... LP
MPS, 1972. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
One of the best Rolf Kuhn sessions we can think of – and a classic MPS album that mixes spiritual avant garde jazz with unusual rhythmic progressions and world percussion. Rolf's group here features Phil Woods guesting on alto, a great companion for Rolf's fluid clarinet lines, which sound here more like soprano sax, blown in a spiritual post-Dolphy kind of way. Nana Vasconcelos is on percussion and berimbau, and Joachim Kuhn plays piano. Tracks include "The Day After", "Turning Out", "Everything In the Garden", and "CA 1-9-5-2". LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed 70s pressing! Cover has a small cut corner.)
