Heavy duty fuzzy funk – and a landmark album from one of the most Hendrix-inspired groups of the early 70s! The style here is guitar funk with plenty of rock thrown in – all really fuzzed-up in production, and often a bit distorted – so that the group are kind of a lost link between the work of Betty Davis and the more mainstream sounds of Jimi! These guys also backed up Fugi on the massive "Mary, Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip", but the sound here's even heavier – even more guitar-jamming than early work by Funkadelic! Titles include the great stoned track "Cynthy-Ruth", plus "Prophet", "Reality", "I Don't Want To Die", and "Over & Over". LP, Vinyl record album
A collection of ultra-rare material from the mighty BlackMerda and affiliates – the legendary funk group who mixed in plenty of Hendrix-styled guitar to their grooves – resulting in sound that few other groups can touch! The "Psych Funk" title is very well put – given the mix of heavy guitar, funky bass, and pounding drums – and the vocals are nice and soulful throughout – especially on the few tracks sung by Linnie Walker – although some moments have more trippy, psych-styled phrasing – a bit like early Funkadelic! The set mixes together unissued tracks with alternates of versions on the other Funky Delicacies collection – and titles include alternate versions of the BlackMerda tunes "Cynthy-Ruth" and "Reality"; the tracks "People Let Me Know" and "Darn Well", with vocals by Linnie Walker; The Soul Agents' excellent funk version of "Foxy Lady"; and the VCL Veasey tracks "Do Nothing Wrong" and "Original Man". LP, Vinyl record album

A heady bit of work from this obscure Caribbean band – much more rock than funk, but put together with a nice combination of both in the mix! We might link these guys slightly to a group like Merda/BlackMerda – maybe given some inspiration from the work of Jimi Hendrix, but sometimes coming across with an equal dose from Sly Stone as well – all of which makes for a mighty great sound in the music! Guitar, organ, and bass are very strong in the mix – and titles include "A Jam Of Love", "The Next Morning", "Faces Are Smiling", "Back To The Stone Age", and "Life". LP, Vinyl record album
A set that steps out with a Curtis Mayfield reference in the title, but which goes into much heavier territory all – black rock, often mixed with a bit of funk, in the best tradition of some of the Hendrix-inspired groups who rose up at the start of the 70s! If you know the trippy psychedelic style of Merda, you'll get part of the vibe here – but as usual with Numero, the span is much wider-ranging overall – and the label's done a great job of uncovering a range of obscure African-American acts from the 70s who were firmly committed to the headier, heavier, fuzzier, freakier side of the spectrum! Titles include "I Can't Believe" by Flying Wedge, "Sweet Poison" by Iron Force, "Message To Planet Earth" by Solid Gold, "Ringing Bells (part 2)" by The Young Senators, "Rolling Love (part 2)" by Three Days Ahead, "It's A Dream" by Little Ed & The Soundmasters Band, "Funky Music" by The Basement, and "Chrystal Illusion" by Creative Unlimited. LP, Vinyl record album
