✨✧ Roy AyersUbiquity 45 Collection – Hummin In The Sun/Fuzz/I Can't Help Myself/Love (2 x 7 inch set) ... 7-inch
Polydor/Dynamite Cuts (UK), 1971. New Copy 2 x 7 inch set (pic cover, reissue)... Out Of Stock
Four of the best tracks from one of the greatest Roy Ayers albums of all time – and one of the rarest! The record is right in the same vein as Roy's groundbreaking He's Coming LP – a righteous mix of soul jazz, subtle funk, and some of the cosmic wisdom that Roy was spreading among the jazz funk underground – all wrapped up beautifully, but never in a way that's like commercial soul of the time. There's a few instrumental tracks on the album, plus some vocal ones that show that off-beat male/female style that Roy would use more famously in later tracks like "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" or his work with Ramp. Players include Harry Whitaker on electric piano, Edwin Birdsong on organ, Alphonse Mouzon on drums, Jumma Santos on congas – and titles include a version of Nat Adderley's "Hummin", done as "Hummin In The Sun", and very much in the Ramp vein. Other titles include "I Can't Help Myself", "Love", and "The Fuzz" – all great too! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Wolfgang Dauner QuintetSun Is Rising/Day In The Life ... 7-inch
MPS/Wallen Bink (Germany), 1969. New Copy (pic cover)... $14.99 24.99
Two incredible tracks from keyboardist Wolfang Dauner – both a mad mix of funky jazz and psychedelic elements! "Sun Is Rising" has this very groovy, almost joyous sort of vibe – odd vocals mixed with a hip sitar line and some very cool percussion next to the drums! "Day In The Life" is taken with the Beatles' lyrics intact, but sung in this really unusual flat-toned mode – and mixed with funky drums, and some great guitar from Sigi Schwab! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Really wonderful pressing – done from the original master tapes! Limited edition too.)

Shuya Okino & Pirahnahead with DivinitiShine (Root Soul boogie rmx)/Sun Will Rise (Detroit live version) ... 7-inch
At Home Sound (Japan), 2015. New Copy (pic cover)... $8.99 19.99
Diviniti sings on both cuts here – adding in some mighty soulful vocals! "Shine" is a great clubby groover from a few years back – and definitely showcases the warmer side of dancefloor work that Shuya Okino has been bringing to the world since his days in Kyoto Jazz Massive – a wonderfully uplifting tune! The flipside's a great take on Shuya's excellent "Sun Will Rise" anthem – again with excellent vocals from Diviniti! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Sun RaHello Mr Schimmel/Interview ... 7-inch
Gearbox (UK), 1990. New Copy (pic cover)... $6.99 13.99 About April 15, 2024 (delayed)
Never-issued late work from the mighty Sun Ra – a single that features an extended solo piano piece on "Hello Mr Schimmel" – a track that's a really great reminder of how much we love Ra in this format! For anyone who's ever thought of Ra as a trickster, or as an avant musician with no understanding of jazz – we present this wonderful track – a fantastic bit of piano work that links the musician back to the generations of Art Tatum and Erroll Garner, while also demonstrating the kind of personal ideas that always made his own recordings so great. The performance was done for the UK's Jazz FM radio in 1990 – and the flipside features a 12 minute interview with the show's host, Jez Nelson. 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Sun RaI Struck A Match On The Moon/Dreamsville ... 7-inch
Corbett vs. Dempsey, 1961. New Copy (pic cover)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Never-issued work from the Sun Ra Arkestra – and two tracks that really show just how much the initial wave of their sound tied together with other strands of postwar music! Both cuts here feature vocals from singer Ricky Murray – and as you can tell from the titles, there's a slightly exotic feel to the tunes – almost a space take on Eden Ahbez territory, handled by Murray in a rich baritone, while the Arkestra provides backing with some nicely rhythmic touches! The sound is straighter than some of the group's more avant material, but in a way that also really links them towards the more out-there side of mainstream music – that blend of exotic modes and wistful longing that Ra first explored in Chicago as the house band at the Club DeLisa! 7-inch, Vinyl record
