✨✧ Susan (Loretta Long)/Joe Raposo/Jeffrey MossSusan Sings Songs From Sesame Street ... LP
Scepter, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the hippest records from the Sesame Street scene – a set of tracks that all feature vocals from the lovely Susan – aka Loretta Long! The tunes are all early gems penned by Joe Raposo – who also arranged and produced the set – and although done for a kiddie show, there's a sense of poise, class, and subtle soul on most numbers that goes way beyond their use on the show. Titles include "ABC Song", "Here Are Some Things That Belong Together", "Children", "Happiness", "Draw Me A Circle", "Right In The Middle Of My Face", and "Happy Talk". LP, Vinyl record album

Fats NavarroFats Navarro Memorial Album (10 inch LP) ... LP
Blue Note, Early 50s. Near Mint- ... $34.99
Tremendous work from a trumpeter who was taken from us all too soon – the legendary Fats Navarro, an important early voice in the sound of bop! The album's a short one, but every track is a gem – as Navarro blows beautifully in groups led by Bud Powell, Tadd Dameron, and Howard McGhee – always with this balance between sweetness and bite that's totally wonderful – an undeniable influence on later hardbop trumpeters to come, served up here with a sense of phrasing and economy that's still very powerful after all these years! Titles include "The Squirrel", "Lady Bird", "Our Delight", "The Chase", "Dameronia", "Double Talk", and "52nd Street Theme". LP, Vinyl record album

VariousBobby Gillespie Presents – I Still Can't Believe You're Gone ... LP
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $29.99 36.99
Blue-tinged work for those days when your heart is breaking and your soul is aching – a really wonderful batch of tracks that are heavy on those late 60s/early 70s moments when male singers were starting to open up a bit and let their emotions show! The vibe here is very different than Bobby Gillespie's own music – and the set brings together bits of country, roots rock, and soul – really special tracks that have a perfect blend of heartfelt vocals, well-penned lyrics, and the kind of arrangements and production that really send the whole thing over the top! The best thing about the collection is that it brings together songs we never would have thought to combine like this – a masterful set list that includes "I Don't Want To Talk About It" by Crazy Horse, "Wait & See" by Lee Hazlewood, "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage" by Thin Lizzy, "The Coldest Days Of My Life" by The Chi-Lites, "Roll Um Easy" by Little Feat, "Magnolia" by JJ Cale, "I Still Can't Believe You're Gone" by Willie Nelson, "Love Sick" by Bob Dylan, I'll Be Long Gone" by Boz Scaggs, "Strong As Death" by Al Green, "Kind Woman" by Percy Sledge, "Dark End Of The Street" by Ry Cooder, "I Feel Like Goin Home" by Charlie Rich, "When My Mind's Gone" by Mott The Hoople, and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" by Nick Cave. VariousLatin Freestyle – New York/Miami 1983 to 1992 ... LP
Ace (UK), Late 80s/Early 90s. New Copy ... $29.99 36.99
A well-done look at a genre that kind of snuck in under the wire – music that carries some late traces of electro, touched with underground club styles, but also delivered in a way that's plenty darn catchy, with a great ear for a hook and a groovy sort of sing-song lyric! The music is heavy on beats, basslines, and keyboards – all bursting out with plenty of energy – maybe a brightened up take on street soul from the early 80s, but usually with a younger female singer, which helps the music bubble along in a really great way! The package is new territory for Ace Records, but they've done a great job of bringing together both key cuts and overlooked gems – all hand-picked by Bob Stanley, with a set list that includes "Two Of Hearts (12" version)" by Stacey Q, "Don't Be Shy (radio voc)" by Janelle, "Lover Girl" by Meg, "Let's Go (radio)" by Nocera, "Funky Little Beat" by Connie, "When I Hear Music" by Debbie Deb, "I Wonder If I Take You Home" by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force, "Together Forever (radio)" by Lisette Melendez, "Dreamin" by Will To Power, "Take Me In Your Arms" by Lil Suzy, "Thief Of Hearts" by Cynthia, "Fascinated (12" version)" by Company B, and "Baby Talk" by Alisha. ✨✧ Vivian WeathersBad Weathers (with bonus track) ... LP
Frontline/Virgin (UK), 1978. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An overlooked gem from the glory days of Virgin's Frontline series – a homegrown effort from UK singer Vivian Weathers – a really unique talent with a style that's very much his own! At some level, Vivian's got the warmth of the lover's rock generation, but mixes it with some of the deeper currents of contemporaries on the hipper side of the UK reggae spectrum – creating a record here that's stunningly soulful and deep, and very much at the highest level of British reggae for the period! This isn't crossover pop, but instead the kind of special, deeper current that only a rare few were crafting on the London scene – as you'll hear on cuts that include "Move Ghetto Children", "Hip Hug", "Gypsy Love", "Song Of Sufferation", "A Fool & His Baby", "The Way You Walk", and "Street Talk". Features a bonus track – "Hip Hug (12" mix)". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousYo Boombox – Early Independent Hip Hop, Electro, & Disco Rap 1979 to 1983 (3LP set – with bonus 7 inch single & download) ... LP
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 3LP set with 7 inch ... Out Of Stock
A really cool package, and one that goes past the easy old school hits from the early years of hip hop – and which instead brings together all these unusual strands of sound that really show how creative things were, right at the start! There's a number of tracks here that are a great surprise – nuggets we loved back in the day, and which spring to live here amidst other well-chosen tracks – all served up with the usual super-great notes and overall presentation we love from the Soul Jazz label. Many tracks have great basslines or boogie-styled grooves – from that moment when hip hop, funk, and soul were maybe more strong bedfellows than they would be a few years later – and themes are a nice mix of politics and partying, on titles that include "Get Live 83" by Carver Area High School Seniors, "Super Rock Body Shock" by Eye Beta Rock, "Street Talk" by Funky Constellation, "Do You Like That Funky Beat" by Kool Kyle The Starchild, "Jam To Remember" by Just Four, "Eei Eei O" by Silver Star, "Real Rocking Groove" by Chapter III, "To The Beat Y'All" by Sangrita, "Rappin & Rockin The House" by Funky Four Plus One More, "Do It Any Way You Wanna" by Mike T, and "Girls Of The World" by The Just Four. ✨✧ Millie ScottLove Me Right ... LP
4th & Broadway, 1987. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A set recorded late in the career of Millie Scott – given that she contributed vocals to some hip girl groups in the 70s – but a standout solo moment too, and one that showed she could make some big waves on her own! The album's got a nice early urban sort of feel – echoes of street soul in the mix, but never as much as you might find on some of the indie efforts of this sort on labels like Next Plateau or Sutra – just the right amount to keep things away from the mainstream cliches of the time. Most numbers have a fair bit of beats at the bottom, but they're often well done, and never dominate Millie's vocals too much – and tracks include "Automatic", "Prisoner Of Love", "Love Me Right", "Let's Talk It Over", "2 Hot 2 Handle", and "One Stop Lover". ✨✧ VanessaBlack & White ... LP
Compendium Records/Roundtable (Australia), 1976. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A fantastically frenetic electric combo from the Norwegian scene of the 70s – one who clearly draw inspiration from some of the more dynamic prog acts on the UK scene from a few years before, but who deliver the goods with a vibe that really returns the instrumental energy to jazz overall! There's some very sharp reed work on the record – served up by Svend Undseth on saxes, flutes, and even a bit of clarinet – matched with really dynamic work on piano and keyboards from Frode Holm – a player with the best energy of the Scandia scene of the time. Thorsten Dulsrud plays some mighty heavy drums, Harald Salater bangs it on bass, and Undset also adds in a bit of guitar work too – on long titles that include "Fragmomentum", "Street Talk", "Summer Poem", and "Sun Walk". ✨✧ VariousATA Records – The Library Archive Vol 3 ... LP
ATA (UK), 2023. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Mad sound library funk from a host of contemporary artists – all bands that have recorded singles for the hip ATA label, coming together here on a set of cuts that really lives up to the best funky 70s modes of famous labels like KPM or DeWolfe! The set doesn't list individual artists, but there is a nice sense of variety throughout – sometimes a bit more electric, sometimes a bit more percussion-heavy – jazzy one minute, funk the next – with a lineup of cuts that's all-killer, no filler at all! The numbers have a vibe that's every bit as strong as their evocative titles – and tracks include "Penthouse In Pernambuco", "Satan Stalks Among Us", "The Street Is Family", "Pineapple Diode Daquiri", "Ten On The Door", "Hips & Lips", and "Fear On Phobos". ✨✧ Tom Tom ClubClose To The Bone ... LP
Sire, 1983. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The second album by the Tom Tom Club – showing this Talking Heads spinoff project as way more than a fluke! The sound here is similar to the first – a sing-song blend of rhythms that's got one foot in the island and one in the street, peppered with a quirky approach overall that makes for some very nice tunes. Wally Badarou gets in some nice work on the album, and tracks include "Pleasure Of Love", "Never Took A Penny", "On The Line Again", "This Is A Foxy World", and "The Man With The 4 Way Hips".
