✨✧ Richard ThompsonMirror Blue (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
Capitol/Real Gone, 1993. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A well-remembered set from Richard Thompson's Capitol years – a record that's awash in that amazing and unique vocal style that only seemed to get better as the decades moved on! Thompson's got this mature quality here that's wonderful – maybe understating some elements that would have been more foregrounded in earlier years – but also completely confident in the way he handles his guitar with all these unusual little sonic traces – subtle currents of darkness that are used perfectly alongside the lyrics, and in way that still has Thompson in territory that nobody else can touch! Titles include "For The Sake Of Mary", "The Way That It Shows", "MGB GT", "Mascara Tears", "Fast Food", "Shane & Dixie", "King Of Bohemia", "Mingus Eyes", and "Beeswing". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition of 1200 – on clear "Mirror" vinyl! First time on vinyl in the US, too!)

Fairport ConventionLiege & Lief ... LP
A&M, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $34.99
A record that really has Fairport Convention knocking it out of the park – making a bold turn towards British traditional music, but in a way that imbues these relics with a whole new life of their own! The album came at a key turning point – after an accident that took one of their members, and which almost saw the group disband – but instead turn towards the past for even deeper inspiration than some of their contemporaries, whom they'd covered on other records – at a level that seems to set Sandy Denny free into this sublime territory of her own! Denny's vocals are incredible – like a thing unlocked from some ancient vault – and they're given this wonderful focus through the growing complexity of Richard Thompson's guitar work, and the understated brilliance of Ashley Hutchings' bass – both of which bring in these modal inflections that are very 60s, and hardly conceived of as accompaniment with the original tunes. The result is tremendous – tunes that are completely transformed, as a touchstone for generations. Titles include "Matty Groves", "Reynardine", "Come All Ye", "The Deserter", "Tam Lin", and "Crazy Man Michael". LP, Vinyl record album
(Brown label A&M pressing. Vinyl has a mark that makes a short click at the end of "Matty Groves". Cover has some surface and edge wear, and a lightly stained bottom edge.)

Dodo MarmarosaDodo's Back! ... LP
Argo, 1961. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
A wonderful later album from pianist Dodo Marmarosa – quite possibly his greatest record ever! The set's an obscure "comeback" date recorded in Chicago for Chess in the early 60s – a trio session with Richard Evans on bass and Marshall Thompson on drums – both working very gently behind Marmarosa's lead. Dodo sounds wonderful here – slightly broken down and world-weary, but in a way that makes for quite a change both from his earlier recordings, and from the standard piano session of the time. There's nothing too polished here, and there's always a strong sense of "voice" on the tracks – a quality that speaks volumes with a short amount of effort – and which has really made this one a favorite of ours over the years! Titles include "Tracy's Blues", "Mellow Mood", "On Green Dolphin Street", and "Cottage For Sale". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese pressing, with insert. Back cover has some light wear, but is nice overall.)

Gabor SzaboMagical Connection ... LP
Blue Thumb, Early 70s. Very Good Gatefold ... $16.99
A very groovy set from guitar genius Gabor Szabo – one that features all those cool tones and elements he'd developed on his late 60s albums for Impulse and Skye Records, given a tighter LA groove here, with almost an A&M Records vibe! There's loads of great solos throughout, played in a combo that also features Lynn Blessing on vibes, Richard Thompson and Nick DeCaro on keyboards, and Sandra Crouch on percussion – all set to some backings handled by DeCaro, who really helps shape the sound of the set! The tunes are a really nice mix of material – and while this might not be Gabor's most way-out album, it's still full of lots of his great groovy guitar – on titles that include "Love Theme From Spartacus", "Country Illusion", "Sombrero Sam", "Lady With Child", "Pretty Girl Why", "Hum A Song", "Magical Connection", and "Fred & Betty". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

Johnny HartmanAll Of Me (70s pressing) ... LP
Bethlehem, 1956. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Although the world always remembers Johnny Hartman best for his Impulse recordings with Coltrane, we've always dug some of his earlier stuff – like this album – because the sound's a bit rawer, and the style's got more of a kick! The magical Hartman voice is presented in two great settings – one a small orchestra directed by Frank Hunter, the other an even cooler group headed by Ernie Wilkins – with great horn work from players who include Anthony Ortega, Howard McGhee, Jerome Richardson, and Lucky Thompson! The tracks are familiar, but done with that dusky Hartman style – and titles include "I Could Make You Care", "The Lamp Is Low", "Stella By Starlight", "All Of Me", and a very haunting rendition of "The End Of A Love Affair". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some edge wear, small sticker remnants, and is lightly bent at the top right corner.)

VariousWhen Jah Shall Come ... LP
Pressure Sounds (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $23.99 25.98
A wealth of rare work from Jamaican studio genius Bunny Striker Lee – unusual cuts and unreleased material – all of it a further testament to his legendary ear for a mindblowing sound! These aren't half-baked cuts, or material that deserved to fall to the cutting room floor – because the style is years ahead of its time, and put together with techniques and styles that are still pretty darn revolutionary after all these many years! Some tracks have a strong vocal presence, others are more instrumental – and in addition to Lee's famous flying cymbals technique, there's lots more going on here too – including some totally cool space age sounds. Unreleased tracks include "Bell Road Rock" by The Aggrovators, "Joe Frazier" by Tommy McCook, "Go Jah Jah Pickney" by Linval Thompson, "No Man Is An Island" by Johnny Clarke & Horace Andy, "Bunny Lee & King Tubby's Dubplate Special" by Cornell Campbell, "Life Of My Own" by The Raver, "Look How Long Nyabinghi Calling You" by Linval Thompson, "King Tubby's Vs Arrows Dubplate" by Cornell Campbell, "Jamaican Fruit Of African Roots" by Lennox Brown & Sheila Richards, "No Babylon Shall Escape In This Time" by Johnny Clarke, and "Every Knee Shall Bow" by Ronnie Davis.
