A great US 2LP set – one that goes back to present the debut
Richard &
Linda Thompson effort to the American market, then adds in live tracks too! LP 1 features I Want To See The Bright Lights – the first and greatest album together from
Richard &
Linda Thompson – and easily one of best folk rock records of the 70s – and perhaps any other decade! That's not hyperbole – I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight is so deeply effective, song after song – you're stunned by the end of it! Electric guitars and some fairly heavy drums for this kind of material work along with accordion, krummhorn and other British and European folk elements – which makes for a unique style. When you pair that with such great original songs – and
Linda's and
Richard's voices, leading the way – it's purely incredible. Titles include "When I Get To The Border", "We Sing Hallelujah", "The Great Valerio", "The Cavalry Cross", "The End Of The Rainbow", "Down Where The Drunkards Roll", and "The Little Beggar Girl". LP 2 features live material, mostly with
Linda – but also featuring some Fairport Convention members too – titles that include "Night Comes In", "Calvary Cross", "Dark End Of The Street", "Flee As A Bird", "The Pitfall/
Excursion", and "The Ballad Of Easy Rider".
(Cover has a wrinkled corner and light wear.)
