✨✧ Doug SahmTexas Radio & The Big Beat ... CD
Floating World (UK), Mid 1970s. New Copy 2CD ... $8.99 16.99
Doug Sahm in the studio is already pretty darn great – as you'll know from his Sir Douglas Quintet albums – but live, he's maybe even more amazing – as he really opens up with a personal style that showcases all those mixes of modes from the Texas roots that helped make him one of the most unique figures in rock and roll! The first CD here features Sahm working in a live setting in Philly in 1973 – a well-recorded set that has all sorts of slices of his already-long career coming into play in a really great way. Titles on that set include "San Antone", "I'm Glad For Your Sake", "She's About A Mover", "Are Inlaws Really Outlaws", "The Rains Came", "Wolverton Mountain", and "Mendocino". The second set here is even better – recorded in Houston with a nicely gritty edge – very much the kind of confident south Texas setting that has Sahm setting fire to everything that drives him! Titles include "Texas Tornado", "Rain Rain", "At The Crossroads", "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights", "Papa Ain't Salty", and "Georgia". CD

✨✧ VariousTrip On Me – Soft Psych & Sunshine 1966 to 1969 ... CD
Ace/Big Beat (UK), Late 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A deep deep dive into the farther reaches of the California scene in the late 60s – music that's completely wonderful all the way through, and presented with a level that really blows away some of the less-official collections on the market! If you know the hit sounds of the time, you'll know a bit of what to expect here – but the selection of cuts goes way way deeper, put together by Alec Palao, a guy we'd already trust with anything Cali from the 60s – and who really knocks himself out with this set! If you dig Beach Boys, Mamas & Papas, and the Byrds, you'll find plenty of new sounds here to fall in love with – and as usual with Ace, the whole thing comes with superb notes, and even features a few unreleased tracks – including two rare cuts by Third Wave, who recorded one album for MPS! Titles include "Niki" and "Three Kingfishers Ferris Wheel" by Third Wave, "Go Try & Put Out The Sun" by The Forum, "Soul Sunrise" by JP Rags, "A Thousand Faces" by The Thousand Faces, "Out In The Open" by The Justice League, "Meadows & Flowers" by Curt Boettcher, "Richard & Me" by Evergreen Tangerine, "Someday Sunday" by The Gettysburg Address, "Lazy Bones" by The Tricycle, "Sugar Stone" by The Candy Company, "The Life You Lead" by A Small World, "Summer Flower" by Crystal Set, and "Until Now" by Augie Moreno. ✨✧ Louis Prima ForeverChristmas In Swing ... CD
Fremeaux & Associates (France), 2022. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Louis Prima's not in the group, but this cool French ensemble have taken plenty of inspiration from his music – which they use to turn out a wonderfully groovy set of Christmas songs on this album! Tunes are both old and recent – Holiday classics mixed with 90s pop crossover cuts – yet all of them get a romping, hard-swinging style that mixes the vocals of singers Pauline Atlan and Patrick Bacqueville with small combo arrangements led by trumpeter Michel Bonnet – all in a style that has plenty of echoes of the Capitol Records sound of Prima at his best! Titles include "Jingle Bell Rock", "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Petit Papa Noel", "The Christmas Song", "I Hate Christmas Time", "Zat You Santa Claus", "Last Christmas", and "Let It Snow". CD

✨✧ VariousImpossible But True – The Kim Fowley Story ... CD
Ace (UK), 1960s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Incredible work from one of the maddest talents in rock and roll – the amazing Kim Fowley, one of THE most important forces on the LA scene of the 60s! Kim's known for many things – producer, arranger, musician, and insane performer – and this set really does a great job of bringing together all of those aspects – really getting at the "rockin hipster around town" persona that was Kim's calling card through over 3 decades of rock in the city. The package features 32 tracks in all – numbers that Kim recorded under his own name, or produced for other labels – all packaged with a stunning set of notes that's filled with stories, suspect history, and other dark chapters from the Kim Fowley past! Titles include "Animal Man", "Bubblegum", "The Trip", and "Space Odyssey" by Kim Fowley, "Wild Thing" by Cathy Rich, "Fallin Off The Edge Of My Mind" by The Seeds, "Pink Dominos" by The Crescents, "Honest I Do" by The Innocents, "Papa Oom Mow Mow" by The Rivingtons, "Like Long Hair" by Paul Revere & The Raiders, "Security" by N Betweens, "The Comedown Song" by Spider, "Popsicles & Icicles" by The Murmaids, and "Satans Holiday" by The Lancasters.
