Two from the "All We Got Iz Us" LP. The usual scowling Onyx MC style, but the production on Last Days has a more low-tempo, late-night sound than the usual Onyx material. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Sasha Berliner —
Onyx ... LP JMI, 2022. New Copy Gatefold ...
Out Of Stock
Vibist Sasha Berliner has a really great touch here – a style that's almost elliptical at times, as she builds and builds these waves of sound on the vibes – creating a magical flow that really makes the whole album a strong statement for her ever-growing talents! The lineup also helps with the sound of the record a lot too – a great combo that includes alto from Jaleel Shaw and Fender Rhodes and piano from James Francies – players who step back at the right moments, then soar right in and spice things up. The rhythms have a nice crackle that matches Sasha's energy, too – drums from Marcus Gilmore and bass from Burniss Travis. Thana Alexa sings on "Crescent Park" – and all other tunes are instrumental, and include "Jade", "NW", "Boom's Epilogue", "Polaris", and "Ephemerality". LP, Vinyl record album
Rare recordings – some solo, some with Chocolate Williams on bass and vocals, some with Frank Newton on trumpet, and some with Reuben Harris on whiskbrooms! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some ring impressions, light scrapes in front, and is bent a bit at the spine.)

Art Pepper —
Omega Man ... LP Onyx, 1958. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
Great stuff by Art Pepper – and like many albums of his 50s work released after the fact, this one almost blows away some of his best known records! The material was recorded in 1958, and was only ever issued on pre-recorded tape by the Omega Tape Company, so it's one of the rarest 50s sessions by Pepper. The set's got a harder groove than most of his record on Contemporary – which is great with us, because we can finally hear the emotion and tone that Pepper is always credited with, but which doesn't always show up on record. The group's a small one, with Ben Tucker on bass, Chuck Flores on drums, and the late LA bopper Carl Perkins on piano. Titles include "Surf Ride", "Begin The Beguine", "Long Ago & Far Away", "Holiday Flight", and "The Breeze & I". LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Scott/Slam Stewart/Don Byas/Sid Catlett —
52nd Street Vol 1 ... LP Onyx, 1945/1946. Near Mint- ...

This great series just keeps on getting better and better – serving up the rare disco and club tracks that we can never seem to find, and doing so in a way that's a heck of a lot hipper than the usual disco set! The groove here isn't really straight disco – it's more a mix of funky club, modern soul, and some of the better rhythms that bubbled around in the underground club scene years back – grooves that were way ahead of their time, and which have still continued to sound fresh over the years! The 2LP set features a total of a dozen tracks – nearly all of which would break your bank if you found them on the original vinyl – and titles include "We Want To Play" by Brief Encounter, "Rebel On The Run (rmx)" by Selection, "Let's Get It On (inst)" by Marini, "Remember To Remember" by Rick Holmes, "Never Gonna Let You Go" by Savana, "Feel So Good" by Mac Thornhill, "Slide Into Your Heart" by Time Spectrum, "Summer Groove" by The Joneses, "City Lights (rasta funk)" by Onyx, "Get It On The Ground" by Joe Coleman, "Ooh Wee Baby" by Ron Richardson, and "I Still Feel Like Dancing" by Newstar Band. LP, Vinyl record album
