A great single-only track from Main Source – and maybe the greatest thing ever about the White Men Can't Rap project! The tune's a sharp attack on wanna-bes in the hip hop world, served up by one of the best of the time – all delivered with that sharp crackle that makes Main Source so wonderful over the years! "He Got So Much Soul" is great too – this really skittish little number that cascades with funky drums, bassline, and a bit of trumpet as Main Source spins out their rhymes effortlessly! One of our favorite cuts ever from Main Source – the tremendous "Looking At The Front Door", a tune that rides strongly on a great Donald Byrd sample to give it a righteous jazzy groove! Two killers from 70s keyboard legend Marc Moulin – both very much in the spirit of his work with Placebo! "Mona Call" is a fast-stepping number that's awash with all sorts of great Fender Rhodes lines – served up in that cool, chomping style Moulin does so well – and peppered with some great reed solos too! The keys continue strongly on "Waterfall" – a number in a similar tempo, and one that feels almost like a part 2 to the main cut – which is a-OK with us! 7-inch, Vinyl record

One of the coolest cuts ever from Tommy Youngblood – a groove that's got this deep horn down in the bassline, which seems to darken the whole tune in a really great way – and bring out a fantastic raw quality in Tommy's vocals! "Nobody But Me" is another great tune – and even more upbeat than the main cut – almost funky, with riffing guitar and a Northern Soul tempo, and sweet horns that soar over the top while the vocals take off! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Never-issued work from the Sun Ra Arkestra – and two tracks that really show just how much the initial wave of their sound tied together with other strands of postwar music! Both cuts here feature vocals from singer Ricky Murray – and as you can tell from the titles, there's a slightly exotic feel to the tunes – almost a space take on Eden Ahbez territory, handled by Murray in a rich baritone, while the Arkestra provides backing with some nicely rhythmic touches! The sound is straighter than some of the group's more avant material, but in a way that also really links them towards the more out-there side of mainstream music – that blend of exotic modes and wistful longing that Ra first explored in Chicago as the house band at the Club DeLisa! 7-inch, Vinyl record
