Gerry Mulligan meets up with a great array of 50s modernists here – in specially setting dedicated to all
Mulligan-penned compositions! Although a radical player himself on the baritone sax,
Gerry also added something strong to the 50s jazz catalog with his great tunes from the early days – gently modern numbers that slowly became standards over the years, thanks to respect from other players. The best of these tracks are showcased here – played by
Mulligan with a sax section that includes Zoot Sims on alto and tenor, Al Cohn on tenor and baritone,
Lee Konitz on alto, and Allan Eager on alto and tenor. Rhythm is by the piano-less section of Freddie Green on guitar, Henry Grimes on bass, and Dave Bailey on drums – and titles include "Venus De Milo", "Revelation", "Sextet", "Turnstyle", "Four & One More", "Crazy Day", and "Disc Jockey Jump". CD also features 4 bonus tracks, too!
