EbonysYou're The Reason Why/Sexy Ways ... 7-inch
Philadelphia International, Early 70s. Very Good+ ... $7.99
Two nice hard-to-find sides by this great Philly soul group. "You're the Reason Why" is a great mixed male/female group cut, with a sweet soul tempo and a male vocal lead. "Sexy Ways" is uptempo with a rolling Gamble/Huff style – rougher and funkier than usual, in kind of a late 60s Philly groove! 7-inch, Vinyl record

General CrookBest Years Of My Life/Testification ... 7-inch
Wand, 1973. Very Good+ ... $4.99
Later work by General Crook – very different than his funkier sides of the 60s, but still pretty darn great! "Best Years Of My Life" is a wonderful ballad cut – strings gently gliding as Crook's rich vocals come into deliver a sweet and sad lyric. "Testification" is more electric – with funky clavinet at the beginning, and a flanged-out approach on the vocals. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Ron Henderson & Choice Of ColorsGemini Lady (orig, alt vocal) ... 7-inch
P-Vine (Japan), 1983. New Copy (pic cover)... $16.99 19.99
A killer bit of Southern modern soul from Ron Henderson – a tune that's got this easy-stepping vibe that's totally great, and slides into a warmly seductive vocal from Ron! The tune's laidback, but tight – and there's a nice edge that's so different than commercial soul of the time – this wonderful quality that sounds equally wonderful in the alternate vocal version of the tune! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Ty HunterLonely Baby/Gladness To Sadness ... 7-inch
Chess, 1962. Very Good+ ... $9.99
A fantastic lost harmony cut on Chess! "Lonely Baby" has a post doo wop sound that's wonderful – with Ty's vocal out in the lead on a sad lyric, while tenor blows in the background, and a group comes in on the chorus to punch things up a bit. "Gladness" has a great sound too – kind of a stepping groove that's almost in an "Elephant Walk" mode, with cool piano triplets in the background. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Black label promo with a Chess Group sleeve.)

InfinityKeep It To Yourself/Get On The Case ... 7-inch
Fountain, 1969. Very Good ... $11.99
"Keep It To Yourself" is a fantastic fantastic fantastic soul track, and probably the greatest cut ever to come from the pen of Billy Butler. Billy performs it here with his group Infinity, and the track rivals anything his brother Jerry ever did. It's got a sweet sad ballad feel, and some amazing arrangements, courtesy of Vince Willis. Very nice, and we don't believe it's on his LP with the group. Plus, the flip's a nice uptempo progressive soul cut, with good vocals. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Labels have a spot of pen.)

Light Touch BandChic-C-A-G-O/Sexy Lady ... 7-inch
Magic Touch/Numero, Early 80s. New Copy ... $7.99 9.99
A really cool cut from the Chicago scene – a bassy boogie number, but one with a bit of a rap as well – a great tribute to our Windy City home, backed with a very catchy chorus! There's plenty of bass in "Sexy Lady" too – very old school, snapping, and with a rollerskating pace – in support of lyrics that are sung and spoken, often with some very cool processing to trip things out 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Skip Mahoney & The CasualsSeems Like (The Love We Had Is Dead & Gone)/Town Called Nowhere ... 7-inch
DC International, 1974. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
Great stuff from one of the 70s' best vocal groups! "Seems Like" is stone mellow east coast harmony soul, with a sweet ballad style. "Town Called Nowhere" is even better, and has a nice choppy guitar, and a good midtempo groove. Very nice! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Main IngredientYou Can Call Me Rover/I'm Better Off Without You ... 7-inch
RCA, 1973. Very Good+ ... $9.99
A killer – one of the group's best tracks! "Rover" has a stunning break on the intro – strings over drums, with a feel that's simply sublime, as the cut hits really hard and sets you up for some super-dope harmony vocals! "Better Off" shows the group's sweet side – but the tune's still a nice ballad! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Cash McCallMore Power To You/I'll Always Love You ... 7-inch
PS Records, Early 70s. Very Good- ... $19.99
Excellent work from this Chicago soul great! "More Power" is one of Cash's best songs – and it's got a hard-rolling funky sound that reminds us a lot of some of Syl Johnson's work on Twinight. Like those cuts, it's got a rolling bass at the bottom – pushing Cash's voice over the top, and keeping the track humming all the way through. "I'll Always Love" is great too – a slower ballad number, but done beautifully, with raw vocals from Cash! 7-inch, Vinyl record
