HerbaliserHerbaliser Band – Session 2 ... CD
K7 (Germany), 2009. Used ... $6.99
Well, this turned out well! Session 2 from the Herbaliser Band – which finds the Herbaliser style of beathead moodcraft turntable wizardry working live and direct with the Easy Access Orchestra! All in all, it's a grittier, funkier vibe than we were expecting for some reason, even the the pedigree was there. From pumelling, drum heavy funky drums, bass and brass mixed the killer scratch work, to to spacier jazzy and more ambient bits, and live band hip hop gems. Includes some next level reworkings of older Herbaliser material and more recent album tracks, and titles include "Mr Combee Has The Flow", "Geddim!", "Another Mother", "Moon Sequence", "Amores Bongo", "Theme From Control Center", "Stranded On Earth" and more. CD

✨✧ ToscaDifferent Tastes Of Honey ... CD
G Stone/K7 (Germany), 2002. Used ... $3.99
Everything you've ever come to expect from Tosca – heavy beats, tuneful flourishes, and a downtempo groove that never breaks its cool – despite the presence of a rich array of other remix talents here. The posturing gets a bit stiff for us at times – and makes us long for the naive innocence of the early Kruder & Dorfmeister days – but that's not really a problem if you want to put the CD on to impress your friends and mates. Includes work by Faze Action, Supatone, Funky Lowlives, Biggabush, Organic Audio, and others. CD

✨✧ ToscaJAC ... CD
K7/G Stone, 2005. Used ... $2.99
The downtempo legacy of Tosca continues – and is still really the strongest link to the Kruder & Dorfmeister sound that first got things going years back! Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber work here in a warmly soulful set of tunes that show them both mellowing with age – but in a really good way – one that's going for gentler grooves, deeper rhythms, and an overall more confident approach that relies less on gimmicks and posturing, and more on unified song structures that keep the K&D legacy strong. Titles include "The Big Sleep", "Pyjama", "Rondo Acapricio", "Heidi Bruehl", "Damentag", "Zuri", "Sala", and "Forte". CD
(Digipak spine has some light wear.)

✨✧ Ursula RuckerMa'at Mama ... CD
K7, 2006. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Quite possibly the strongest set so far from Ursula Rucker – a set that almost seems to retrench in Philly greatness, and tie Ursula closer to home! The record still has some of the spacey 21st Century touches Rucker's other records, but there's also a sound that's bolder, more personal, and more direct than we've ever heard – a confidence in her words and presentation that pushes away some of the trappings of mystery, and goes for a straightforward approach on the best numbers. Production is largely by Ant Tidd – but also features contributions from Tim Motzer, Larry Gold, and Rob Yancey – and titles include "Black Erotica", "Children's Poem", "Humbled", "Rant (Hot In Here)", "Broken", "Poon Tang Clan", and "LOVE". ✨✧ Ursula RuckerSupa Sista ... CD
K7, 2001. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The stunning debut of Ursula Rucker – the vocalist/poetess who's worked over the past few years with The Roots, Silent Poets, and 4 Hero! The album's got a sly dark edge – part NuSoul, part downtempo beats, and on most of the tracks, Ursula recites her lyrics in a slightly cold voice, which gives them a more sinister tone than if they were sung in a straight soul style. Production is by King Britt, Alexkid, 4 Hero, and Robert Yancey III – and the album's another underground gem from the growing Philly underground! Titles include "Supa Sista", "Spring", "1 Million Ways To Burn", "Song For Billy", "Letter To A Sister Friend", "Womansong", and "Philadelphia Child". CD

✨✧ Dani SicilianoDani Siciliano Likes . . . ... CD
K7 (Germany), 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
Moody and atmospheric vocals from Dani Siciliano – a singer with a voice that has lots of strange twists and turns! At one level, Dani could be a classic vocalist from older jazz years – but the backings on the set hearken more towards a New York downtown style of the early 80s – a bit electronic, a bit avant, but also still soulful and swinging throughout. The approach is really unique – far better than the usual "female vocalist with beats" sound that seemed to come across endlessly in the post-trip hop years – and overall, Dani seems like a much deeper artist with a heck of a lot to offer in years to come! Titles include "All Thee Above", "Extra Ordinary", "She Say Cliche", "Come As You Are", "Canes & Trains", "Walk The Line", "One String", and "Collaboration". CD

✨✧ VariousTommy Boy's Greatest Beats Vol 3 – The First 15 Years 1981 to 1996 ... CD
Tommy Boy, 1998. Used ... Out Of Stock
Tommy Boy includes a little bit of everything on each volume of it's Greatest Beats series – from the early Soul Sonic Force classics and dance tracks up through the latest hits. We'll admit there's a few filler tracks (why'd they include the K7 trash??) but there's still a lot of hard-to-obtain 12" versions of Tommy Boy classics. This one includes Afrika Bambattaa & Soul Sonic Force "Looking for the Perfect Beat 12" mix", De La Soul "Me Myself & I", Paris "Break The Grip of Shame", Naughty By Nature "OPP", Stetsasonic "Go Stetsa 1 12" remix", Digital Underground "Same Song", Coldcut/Lisa Stansfield "People Hold On", Club Nouveau "Why You Treat Me So Bad", Information Society, Latifah, Coolio, Force MD's, and more.
