✨✧ HerbaliserHerbaliser Band – Session 2 ... CD
K7 (Germany), 2009. Used ... $6.99
Well, this turned out well! Session 2 from the Herbaliser Band – which finds the Herbaliser style of beathead moodcraft turntable wizardry working live and direct with the Easy Access Orchestra! All in all, it's a grittier, funkier vibe than we were expecting for some reason, even the the pedigree was there. From pumelling, drum heavy funky drums, bass and brass mixed the killer scratch work, to to spacier jazzy and more ambient bits, and live band hip hop gems. Includes some next level reworkings of older Herbaliser material and more recent album tracks, and titles include "Mr Combee Has The Flow", "Geddim!", "Another Mother", "Moon Sequence", "Amores Bongo", "Theme From Control Center", "Stranded On Earth" and more. CD

✨✧ Ursula RuckerMa'at Mama ... CD
K7, 2006. Used ... Just Sold Out!
Quite possibly the strongest set so far from Ursula Rucker – a set that almost seems to retrench in Philly greatness, and tie Ursula closer to home! The record still has some of the spacey 21st Century touches Rucker's other records, but there's also a sound that's bolder, more personal, and more direct than we've ever heard – a confidence in her words and presentation that pushes away some of the trappings of mystery, and goes for a straightforward approach on the best numbers. Production is largely by Ant Tidd – but also features contributions from Tim Motzer, Larry Gold, and Rob Yancey – and titles include "Black Erotica", "Children's Poem", "Humbled", "Rant (Hot In Here)", "Broken", "Poon Tang Clan", and "LOVE". VariousKruder & Dorfmeister – The K&D Sessions (3CD set – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Studio K7 (Germany), Late 1990s. New Copy 3CDs ... $53.99 57.99
The German studio geniuses go to town on some of the best work of the late 90s – remixing a host of tracks that range from the junglist musings of Birtish artists like Roni Size and Alex Reece, to the jazzier riffings of the Compost crew. Remixed titles include "Heroes" by Roni Zie, "Rollin On Chrome" by Afrodelics, "Eastwest" by Mama Oliver, "Donaueschinge" by Rainer Truby Trio, "Going Under" by Rocker's Hi Fi, "Where Shall I Turn" by Sin, "Jazz Master" by Alex Reece, "Speechless" by Count Bassic, and "Bug Powder Dust" by Bomb The Bass. Heck, these guys even make us like Depeche Mode on their remix of "Useless"! CD

✨✧ Dani SicilianoDani Siciliano Likes . . . ... CD
K7 (Germany), 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
Moody and atmospheric vocals from Dani Siciliano – a singer with a voice that has lots of strange twists and turns! At one level, Dani could be a classic vocalist from older jazz years – but the backings on the set hearken more towards a New York downtown style of the early 80s – a bit electronic, a bit avant, but also still soulful and swinging throughout. The approach is really unique – far better than the usual "female vocalist with beats" sound that seemed to come across endlessly in the post-trip hop years – and overall, Dani seems like a much deeper artist with a heck of a lot to offer in years to come! Titles include "All Thee Above", "Extra Ordinary", "She Say Cliche", "Come As You Are", "Canes & Trains", "Walk The Line", "One String", and "Collaboration". CD

✨✧ VariousDJ Kicks – Kamaal Williams ... CD
K7 (Germany), 2019. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Keyboardist Kamaal Williams has given us some great records under his own name – and here, he turns in a stunning set for the DJ Kicks series – a record that's overflowing with a mix of cosmic jazz, soul, and club from some of Kamaal's key contemporaries – mixed with a few great contributions of his own! All the criss-crossing of styles that we love in Williams own music is present in his selections on this set – and there's a majestic flow that really shows an understanding of all the changes in the underground during the past decade or so – as Kamaal takes us on a musical journey through its landscape of sound! Tommy Boy includes a little bit of everything on each volume of it's Greatest Beats series – from the early Soul Sonic Force classics and dance tracks up through the latest hits. This one includes Afrika Bambattaa & Soul Sonic Force "Looking for the Perfect Beat 12" mix", De La Soul "Me Myself & I", Paris "Break The Grip of Shame", Naughty By Nature "OPP", Stetsasonic "Go Stetsa 1 12" remix", Digital Underground "Same Song", Coldcut/Lisa Stansfield "People Hold On", Club Nouveau "Why You Treat Me So Bad", Information Society, Latifah, Coolio, Force MD's, and more.
