✨✧ Gianni BrezzoSoundscapes 1 – Music For Harlequins ... LP
Jakarta (Germany), 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A set that's almost got a sound library look to the cover, and one that seems to carry on that mode as well in the music – as the album delivers these stripped-down tunes that have Gianni Brezzo working in the studio on acoustic guitar, keyboards, and rhythms – all with a spare sense of melody that makes the record a tuneful delight throughout! These aren't instrumentals that spin out long improvised solos – although they do have plenty of jazzy instrumentation, used in that classic sound library style to really emphasize the mood and melody – on titles that include "Vengo A Te", 'Il Castello Dei Pagliacci", "Sobri", "No No No", "Un Nuovo Giorno", "It's All There", and "L'Arlecchinozz". ✨✧ Cosmic Analog EnsembleLes Grand Vacances ... LP
Jakarta (Germany), 2024. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The group's no ensemble, but they're definitely analog – as the one-man combo Charif Megarbane handles a whole host of cool electric sources for the music – a mix of mellotron, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Farfisa, Moog, and other keys – mixed with an electric koto, flute, vibes, theremin, and field recordings too! There's also key use of acoustic guitar, which warms up and humanizes the sound wonderfully – as do the French vocals, which appear from time to time, and make the whole thing sparkle like some underground Parisian project from years back – almost building a bridge from the 70s Saravah scene forward to the music of Stereolab and Laetitia Sadier. The album's every bit as great as those two references would imply – and titles include "The Patterns Of A Hand", "Ainsi Souffle Le Vent", "Sens Dessus Dessous", "Passe Compose", "Les Orpailleurs", and "Octopolis". PanbersIndonesian City Sound – Panbers Psychedelic Rock & Funk 1971 to 1974 ... LP
Elevation (Netherlands), Early 1970s. New Copy ... $31.99 38.99
A very cool group, and one who are every bit as groovy as they look on the cover – a hip early 70s Indonesian quartet, and one who mix together equal parts rock and funk – but all with a very trippy sound throughout! These guys are incredible – an under-discovered group who've clearly drunk deep of some of the best Anglo influences of the time, but also then come up with a unique hybrid of their own – singing English at times, Indonesian at others – and mixing up fuzzy guitars with freaky rhythms in styles that are often a few years behind the rest of the world – more late 60s funky than you might expect from the date of the tracks, but in a way that's A-OK with us! The groove and the group are plenty playful throughout – and titles include "Come On You dance", "Rock & The Sea", "Jakarta City Sound", "Haai", "Let Us Dance Together", "Indonesia My Lovely Country", "Bye Bye", "Mengapa Begini", and "Kampung Halaman". LP, Vinyl record album
