✨✧ Impact All StarsJava Java Java Java ... LP
Get On Down, 1972. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Pivotal early dub! Depending upon whose history of the Jamaican recording industry you subscribe to, this is can be considered by many to be the first dub LP – and whether that's proveable or not, it's certain among the first! History aside, it's a mighty set with some raw early dub style workouts at the hands of Errol Thompson at the renowned 16 North Parade recording studio run by Randy's, with some deft production by Clive Chin. Needing virtually no introduction, the Impact All Stars drop some incredible rhythms, many which will be immediately recognizable as having been versioned from massive numbers for Augustus Pablo, Junior Byles and the Soul Vendors. Titles include "Java Dub", "Cheating Dub", "ET Special", "Ordinary Version Dub", "Hide Away Dub" and "Black Man's Dub". LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy LondonBridge Over Troubled Waters (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Trojan/Doctor Bird (UK), Early 70s. New Copy 2CD ... $16.99 24.99
A beautiful collection – a full album and rare tracks from sweet-voiced reggae singer Jimmy London, plus a whole bonus disc of other material produced at Randy's too! The core album, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, is wonderful – recorded by a singer who maybe didn't hit the heights of some of his contemporaries, but who has a really universal soul quality to his vocals – a bit falsetto, a bit deeper and sweeter too – working through a mix of songs from American soul, plus a few originals – all with nicely warm production from Vincent Chin, marking that shift from rocksteady into early reggae! Titles include "Shake A Hand", "They Don't Know", "Hanging Up My Heart", "Just My Imagination", "It's Now Or Never", and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Includes bonus tracks by Jimmy – including "Hip Hip Hooray", "Jamaican Festival 72", and "I'll Never Find Another Mood" – plus 38 more bonus tracks – by Lloyd Parks, Dennis Brown, Freedom Group, Alton Ellis, Ethiopians, Dennis Alcapone, Impact All Stars, Augustus Pablo, Carl Murphy, Max Romeo, and others. ✨✧ Charlie ChristianGenius Of The Electric Guitar (4CD set) (amp box edition) ... CD
Columbia, Late 30s/Early 40s. Used 4 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Amazing work from guitarist Charlie Christian – an artist who only recorded for a few short years before an untimely early death – but a player whose work went onto have a huge impact on both the guitar and jazz music in general for years to come! Charlie's playing has a sharp edge that's undeniable – an approach to the guitar that's definitely jazz, yet also finds a place for bluesy inflections too – in styles that no doubt influenced later players like Grant Green or Tal Farlow – and which may have also been an inspiration to electrified bluesmen in the 50s, too. This package brings together a huge amount of Christian's crucial sides for the Columbia label – material that features his raw electric instrument in the company of the Benny Goodman sextet, where Charlie could really shine – and a bit in Benny's larger group too. The package also features raw material that has Christian playing with Count Basie & Lester Young, and the Metronome All Stars – plus detailed notes too. 98 tracks in all! CD
(Out of print first pressing – in the cool amp-styled box! Outer box has some edgewear & is priced accordingly.)
