✨✧ Freddie HubbardHigh Energy ... LP
Columbia, 1974. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sweet electric Freddie Hubbard – a wonderfully laidback session that's filled with space and soul – hardly what you'd expect from the title! The album follows nicely in the style that Hubbard hit at CTI – an openly flowing groove that has Freddie's trumpet on top of long electric piano lines from George Cables, with occasional fuller backings to flesh out the sound! Arrangements are by Dale Oehler, who's conducting a larger group behind a core quintet that also features excellent reeds from Junior Cook – possibly one of his strongest (and only) appearances on an electric date like this. Cables is the champ, though – and really makes the set cook by changing the vibe strongly with his keys – setting a tone for Freddie throughout. Titles include "Camel Rise", "Crisis", "Too High", "Black Maybe", and "Baraka Sasa". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some ring and edge wear.)

✨✧ Lillo ThomasAll Of You ... LP
Capitol, 1984. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Lillo Thomas has a mighty nice vocal style here – one that's a bit high in the spectrum, and which works perfectly with the sweet keyboards in the grooves! Thomas takes the lyrics right up to the top of the mix – and floats them way high above the basslines, but still in a way that snaps along with the 80s groove that drives most of the numbers a great blend that's served up by Paul Lawrence – who handles the keys, production, and songwriting – really making for a tight package overall! Lillo's got the chops to challenge the bigger chart names in 80s soul, yet keeps things a bit more relaxed too. Titles include "Your Love's Got A Hold On Me", "Holding On", "Show Me", "Settle Down", "All Of You", and "My Girl". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and a track note in pen.)

✨✧ Mal WaldronMal 81 ... LP
Progressive/Teichiku (Japan), 1981. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great Mal Waldron set – recorded with a trio that includes George Mraz on bass and Al Foster on drums! Given the rhythm players, the sound here is a bit warmer than some of Waldron's more avant work from the European scene– and both sets are a nice reminder that Mal could still be a very sensitive interpreter of a standard, too – not just his own, slightly bolder compositions. Mraz is nicely high in the recording, stepping around in this sweet pulse that often seems to dominate Foster's work on drums – which makes for a nice bottom end that lets Mal do plenty of his own thing on the keys. Titles include "Love For Sale", "Summertime", "I Surrender Dear", "Yesterdays", and "All Of You". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Freddie HubbardGleam ... LP
CBS (Japan), 1975. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Jazz funk genius from Freddie Hubbard in the mid 70s! Gleam was a Japanese-only double album from the jazz giant in its original release – mighty funky at times, too – right up there with some of the best Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock Japanese sets from the 70s! It's a live set captured in March of '75 at Tokyo's Yubin Chokin Hall – long numbers played by a group that includes Freddie on trumpet, Carl Randall on tenor and flute, George Cables on electric piano, Henry Franklin on bass, Carl Burnett on drums, and Buck Clark on percussion! Each player has plenty of space to groove, and it's very well captured – you can hear the most expressive solos and the most subtle nuances. Some great solos by Freddie and the rest of the players – breathless tenor & flute by Randall, keys by Cables that are jazz funk perfection and interplay between Burnett's drums and Clark's congas & percussion that's somehow tense and comfortable at the same time. The shortest number in the set runs more than the 7 minutes and the longest is more than 20 minutes – and none is one second shorter than necessary, actually leaving us pining for more – making it all the more vital in the double album format. Released on 2CDs for the first time ever here! How this great album has been so hard to find over the years is a mystery. Titles include "Kuntu", "Spirits Of Trane", an amazing cover of Stevie Wonder's "Too High", "Midnight At The Oasis", "Ebony Moonbeams", and "Put It In The Pocket". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original Japanese pressing, with booklet – a great copy!)

✨✧ Harry NilssonNilsson Schmilsson ... LP
RCA, 1971. Very Good+ ... $14.99
One of Nilsson's best ever albums – with a more streamlined overall sound than some of his wildly eclectic earlier LPs – really putting a tight focus on both his vocal and songwriting genius! There's an easygoing charm to the album that's pretty much unrivaled in his catalog (and highlighted by the early morning cover photo) – backed by guitars, keys, and in some spots horns – with loads delicate moments and oddball humor. Pure greatness! Titles include "Gotta Get Up", "Driving Along", "Early In The Morning", "The Moonbeam Song", "Down", "Without You", "Coconut", "Let The Good Times Roll", "Jump Into The Fire" and "I'll Never Leave You". LP, Vinyl record album
(Tan label pressing, LSP-4515 in an RE cover, with light wear and a lightly bent corner.)

✨✧ Anita O'Day & The Three SoundsAnita O'Day & The Three Sounds ... LP
Verve, 1962. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A great singer and a great trio – a unique Verve outing that has vocalist Anita O'Day joining forces with the Three Sounds combo of pianist Gene Harris! The Three Sounds were always happy to serve as a rhythm combo on dates like this – and they really bring a lot of their own flavor to the record – standing out on a few instrumental selections that highlight their own brief relationship with Verve – but mostly backing Anita with a groove that's tight and always soulful! O'Day's vocals are as confident as Harris' work on the keys – making for a very nice match – and titles include "Fly Me To The Moon", "All Too Soon", "My Ship", and "Whisper Not", which also features a guest solo by Roy Eldridge. ✨✧ Curtis JonesLonesome Bedroom Blues ... LP
Delmark, 1962. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Piano blues from the legendary Curtis Jones – a Texas player who first rose to fame in the late 30s, and who here still has a way with the keys and a vocal style that nobody else can touch! It's a bit hard to put the distinctness of Jones in words, but it definitely comes through on the record – piano lines that often feel as if two different musicians are playing the instrument at the same time, mixed with these casual and confident vocals that almost feel like Curtis is also standing off to the side, making commentary on the proceedings! There's no other instrumentation on the record at all – none is needed, either – and titles include "Evil Curse Blues", "Highway 51", "Curtis Jones Boogie Woogie", "Tin Pan Alley", "Black Magic Blues", and "Lonesome Bedroom Blues". LP, Vinyl record album
(Lincoln Ave pressing, with Sample stamp. Vinyl appears heated but play is not affected. Cover has minimal wear and a Sample stamp in back.)

✨✧ Three SoundsBabe's Blues ... LP
Blue Note, 1961. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Rare material by the legendary Three Sounds – recorded in the early 60s by Gene Harris and combo, but never issued at the time! The work follows very strongly in the best spirit of the Three Sounds' more famous albums from the time – a unique blend of soul jazz piano with some of the more sprightly pianistics that had been showing up on trio records in the 50s – never too over the top, but with enough creativity to make the group a key crowd-pleasing act at the time! Harris' work on the keys is extremely magical, and there's some tunes on the set that give the album a slightly different feel than usual. Highlights include great readings of Randy Weston's "Babe's Blues", Nat Adderley's Work Song", and Frank Rosolino's "Blue Daniel" – plus the originals "Wait A Minute" and "Lazy Cat". LP, Vinyl record album
(80s DMM pressing. Cover has light wear, a small trace of a sticker, and a promo stamp.)

✨✧ Billy Taylor TrioNew Billy Taylor Trio ... LP
ABC, Late 50s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Excellent 50s work from pianist Billy Taylor – a record that has him stepping out with even more command of the keys than his earlier sides for Prestige and Roost! The format here is simple, but also simply amazing – as Billy works through familiar tunes with a highly rhythmic agenda – expanding them beautifully with help from bassist Earl May and drummer Ed Thigpen – the latter of whom really adds a crackling finish to the record, and matches Taylor wonderfully in the way that he blends rhythm and melody in the same motion! Most titles on the set are standards, and include "Round Midnight", "The More I See You", "Will You Still Be Mine", and "There's A Small Hotel" – but the album also features 2 great originals by Taylor – "Sounds In The Night" and "Titoro" – both longer tracks with an almost Jamal-like conception! LP, Vinyl record album
