✨✧ Toli & The Femm NamelessSee Line/Talk Dat S**t/Deaf Ears (instrumental dub) (10 inch EP) ... 12-inch
Kooyman, Early 2000s/2017. New Copy ... $14.99 16.98
The first few numbers we've heard from trombone player Toli and the Femm Nameless group – an all female Afrobeat-inspired combo who made some waves in the fertile Brooklyn live funk scene of early 00s alongside scene legends like Antibalas, the Dapkings and Menhan Street Band but disbanded before breaking out nationally or internationally! They're all female group with and show some stylistically diverse chops in just the few tracks here – including a Afro dancefloor riff on Nina Simone's "See Line Woman", Fela-inspired funky Afro soul and funk on "Talk Dat S**t" underneath the solidly contemporary vocals, and a moodier, mostly instrumental approach on "Deaf Ears". 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Tatham, Mensah, Lord, & RanksTwo Way Here One Way Go/No Facetime/BBQ ... 12-inch
2000 Black (UK), 2017. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Fantastic work from this cosmic groove quartet – a group who are continuing to push the future spirit of the London scene into great new dimensions! "Two Way Here One Way Go" has this groove that's definitely broken beat, but which also features lots of live percussion too – including an instrument that almost sounds like a balafon, which gives an organic vibe to the cut – plus some cool Fela-like electric piano! "No Facetime" is nice and jazzy – really warm piano that runs at a nice contrast to the sharper grooves – and "BBQ" is maybe a bit more conventional club, but still totally great overall! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Seun Kuti & Egypt 80Think Africa (orig, radio, bonus beats)/Na Oil (orig, radio, bonus beats) ... 12-inch
Still Music (Germany), 2007. New Copy (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
No fake-funk here, as Seun Kuti's working with the legendary Egypt 80 group – on two tracks that bristle with all the soul and sharp instrumental touches of his father Fela's classics from years back! "Think Africa" has a stepping, skittish groove that's classic Kuti all the way – a romping rhythm that's topped with some great organ from Seun, plus a bit of vocals too! "Na Oil" has almost a James Brown undercurrent buried in the Afro Funk grooves – with some especially great horns from Egypt 80, offset by snapping guitar bits that really send home the groove! 12-inch, Vinyl record
