✨✧ Gene ChandlerYour Love Looks Good On Me ... LP
Fast Fire, 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Although Gene Chandler wasn't scoring nearly as big in the 80s as he was in the 60s, he was still a great vocalist, and could turn out some good material when he wanted to. This album's more than enough proof of that – and it features some good mellow tracks that have Gene singing in a sophisticated quiet storm sort of style. The best number is "Haven't I Heard That Line Before" – and other tracks include "You'll Never Be Free Of Me", "Lucy", and "Please You Tonight". The record's got some uptempo numbers that fall flat, so stick to the ballads and mellow cuts. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ MotorheadAce Of Spades ... LP
Bronze, 1980. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Landmark British metal from Motorhead– inarguably one of the greatest albums ever in the genre! If there's a flaw to Ace Of Spades, it's that Lemmy & Co.'s signature song – the title track, of course – is so damned amazing, you want to drop the needle on it 10 times in a row everytime you pull the record out of the sleeve before going on to the rest of the record. If only more rock & roll albums had this "problem". Other tracks include "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch", "Love Me Like A Reptile", "Shoot You In The Back", "Fast And Loose", "Fire, Fire", "Jailbait", "Bite The Bullet", "The Hammer", "Dance", "Live To Win" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original US Mercury pressing with Masterdisk stamp/HW etch. Cover has a cut corner, some ring and edge wear, and is lightly bent at the opening.)

✨✧ Sid BassMoog Espana ... LP
RCA, 1969. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Sid Bass runs through a bunch of moogy versions of tunes in the "Spanish" idiom – either traditional favorites, or more modern pop Latin tracks – with plenty of fast-type moogy work, designed to approximate (we think) a Spanish guitar sort of approach! Cuts include "Granada", "Spanish Flea", "The Peanut Vendor", "Valencia", "Mama Inez", and "Ritual Fire Dance". Noodley and moogy! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Black PumasBlack Pumas (2LP deluxe edition – gold & red/black marble vinyl pressing) ... LP
ATO, 2019. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Soulful sounds from Black Pumas – a collaboration between singer Eric Burton and the great Adrian Quesada – the latter an instrumentalist and producer that you'll know from a variety of different funky projects over the years! This set might well be Adrian's ticket to the big time – as Burton's a singer with a very strong range, and great crossover potential – echoing Al Green one minute, hitting deeper vibes the next – and working alongside small combo backing that has plenty of laidback guitar lines and warm keyboards, all produced with the usual Quesada touch! Titles include "Oct 33", "Fire", "Colors", "Know You Better", "Stay Gold", "Old Man", "Confines", and "Touch The Sky". Expanded version features lots of bonus material – including "Eleanor Rigby", "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City", "Fast Car", "Black Cat", and "I Am Ready" – plus "live in studio" versions of "Confines", "Colors", and "Oct 33". ✨✧ Eje ThelinSo Far ... LP
Columbia/Be! (Germany), 1963. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A landmark set from the Swedish scene of the early 60s – one that shows just how far that nation's jazzmen had grown during the postwar years! Trombonist Eje Thelin's always one of those talents worth checking out, but we especially like him in these early years – as he's overflowing with fresh new ideas, and really seems to set fire to all around him! At some level, some of the sounds here echo the styles of other American trombone innovators – like JJ Johnson and Curtis Fuller – both particularly good choices for reference here, as a few years earlier, Sweden might have produced a player who was much more in a Bob Brookmeyer or Herbie Harper camp. There's a nice edge to Thelin's playing – and he's definitely not afraid to get a bit dirty with his tone – and other players include Ulf Andersson on tenor, Joel Vandroogenbrock on piano, Roman Dylag on bass, and Run Carlsson on drums. Titles include the originals "Folk Song", "So Far", and "Fast" – plus "Lament" and "It Could Happen To You". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Beastie BoysAglio E Olio (180 gram pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Grand Royal, 1995. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Be warned – this might not be the Beastie Boys you know and love, because this special set has the trio returning to their punk rock roots – getting some help from Awol, and blasting through tracks that are as loud and fast as the work on their early Polly Wog Stew EP! In fact, the group are so fast here that they blast through the songs very quickly – the record is just a quarter of an hour in length – yet given that they could just have kept doing their same hitmaking thing at the time, it's great to hear them still be able to operate in a hardcore mode! Titles include "Square Wave In Unison", "Brand New", "Deal With It", "Believe Me", and "Nervous Assistant". Again, this is not hip hop – it's punk rock! Includes bonus tracks – "Light My Fire" and "Soba Violence". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousSoul Slabs Vol 2 (3LP set) ... LP
Colemine, 2010s. New Copy 3LP ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic funk from the Colemine label – a company who've given us plenty of great albums over the years, but who seem especially well-tuned to the funky 45! Along with Daptone, Big Crown, and a few others, Colemine is one of the labels who turn out top-shelf 7" singles again and again – most of which are in limited pressings, disappear fast, and are sometimes pretty expensive if you can find them! This set corrects that issue, and brings together 27 nuggets that originally appeared as funky 45s – all stacked together nicely as a massive LP set, with a nice price break from trying to track down the singles. Titles include "Gripsweats Them" by The Gripsweats, "Don't You Know" by Durand Jones & The Indications, "NUSAU" by Jungle Fire, "Supermoon" by Ikebe Shakedown, "What A Shame" by Jr Thomas & The Volcanos, "War Room" by Black Market Brass, "Aragon" by Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, "My God Has A Telephone" by Flying Stars Of Brooklyn, "He's On Time" by Harlem Gospel Travelers, "Happiness" by Wesley Bright & The Honeytones, "It Was Only A Dream" by Thee Sinseers, "America" by Soul Scratch, and "Sure Don't Miss You" by The Dip. ✨✧ VariousBreakfast Club – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... LP
A&M, 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The soundtrack for one of the most popular John Hughes films of the 80s, and the soundtrack for a generation as well – a mix of songs that were partly pulled from other sources, but which went on to make the idea of a compilation soundtrack every bit as important as a full original film score! The set kicks off with the massive hit "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds – the virtual theme of the film – then moves through tunes that include "Fire In The Twilight" by Wang Chung, "Waiting" by Elizabeth Daily, "We Are Not Alone" by Karla DeVito, "Didn't I Tell You" by Joyce Kennedy, and "Heart Too Hot To Hold" by Jesse Johnson & Stephanie Spruill. And the set also features a few instrumentals – "I'm The Dude", "Dream Montage", "The Reggae", and "Love Theme". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Funk Revolution with Lucky BrownSpace Dream ... LP
Tramp (Germany), 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A second slice of work from the Space Dream sessions from this mighty group – one that has Lucky Brown on vocals plus trumpet, flute, and percussion – sounding nice and sharp next to the gritty edge of the combo! There's plenty of fast rhythms, riffing guitar, and a tight by well-matched horn section – tenor and trumpet racing together, then breaking into solos – and the album's got plenty of instrumental passages that let you hear the duo at work! There's a bit of moog on the cut "Space Dream" – and tracks also include the previously unreleased "Scarlet Runner", "Forever", and "Fireball" – plus "Jesse's Party", "Redbeard", "Steamed Greens", and "She's A Hard Workin Woman". ✨✧ Jack McDuffHot Barbeque ... LP
Prestige/BGP (UK), 1966. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of our all-time favorite albums from Brother Jack McDuff – not just for the cover (which is plenty appealing to us as BBQ fans!), but also for the tight, sharply focused grooves on the set – some of Jack's first really firey work on record! The combo here is great – with a young George Benson hard-wailing on guitar, cutting lines so fast and furious it's hard to believe – especially if you only know his later work. The legendary Joe Dukes is on drums – dancing all over the place under Brother Jack's great groovy solos – and Red Holloway completes the group on tenor sax! The title track's got a rare vocal refrain – with Jack shouting out "Hot Barbeque" over the organ – and other cuts include "Briar Patch", "Hippy Dip", "601 1/2 North Poplar", and "The Three Day Thang".
