✨✧ Wes MontgomeryGroove Brothers ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A 70s set that brings together some nice sides from Wes and his brothers. Side one is taken from the Montgomery Brothers set, the first session to feature the group with Wes on the west coast – caught in the studio at a time when Buddy and Monk had left The Mastersounds, and recorded here with a sound that's quite similar to that group – but with a bit of a harder edge, thanks to the guitar. Side two continues in the same vein, capturing the group on a live set in Vancouver, grooving in a similar style that's a bit like some of Wes' early small group albums from the same time. The final two sides are pulled from the Groove Yard LP, another lively set that has a lot more swing than usual, and which grooves nicely on just about every cut. The drummers on the sides are Lawrence Marable, Paul Humphries and Bobby Thomas, all fitting nicely into the pocket with the Montgomerys. 15 tracks in all, including "Jeanine", "Green Dolphin Street", "Beaux Arts", "Snowfall", "Lover Man", "June In January", "Monterey Blues", "Delirium", "Back To Back", "Doujie", "Just For Now", and "Groove Yard" LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Shawn PhillipsSpaced ... LP
A&M, 1977. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful! Shawn Phillips started his career as a shaggy folk rocker with a bit of a jazzy twinge – but this album collects odd bits and pieces that were left off of earlier albums, and works perfectly as a record that shows a whole new side of his genius! The album shows Phillips as a master of the funky jazz groove – and although he's still singing on some of the songs, he also lets loose with a number of instrumental cuts, laid out in a tight well-produced mode that puts them up there with some of the best work coming out on labels like Fantasy or Blue Note during the mid 70s. The centerpiece of these is the massive long cut "We Came To Say Goodbye", which builds and builds over the course of 15 minutes, with cool keyboards, great guitar, and the kind of tightly compressed grooves you'd expect to find on a Headhunters album (no surprise, since Headhunters Mike Clark, Bill Summers, and Paul Jackson are on the cut!) Other instrumental tracks include "Prelude To A Leaving" and "Italian Phases" – and strong vocal numbers include "Parisian Plight 1" and "Your Eyes". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ McCoy TynerGreeting ... LP
Fantasy/Milestone, 1978. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A strong live set from the end of the 70s – one that shows the culmination of McCoy Tyner's work within larger concept settings, a format that he'd been exploring thoroughly since the passing of his old leader, John Coltrane. The ensemble here is quite strong – with George Adams and Joe Ford on flute and saxes, Woody Theus on drums and bells, Guilherme Franco on percussion, and Charles Fambrough on bass – and with Tyner, they work out some majestic tracks that soar with a spirituality supported by strong, blocky, piano chords. The highlight of the set is a 15 minute reading of Tyner's "Fly With The Wind", and other tracks include "Hand In Hand", "The Greeting", "Pictures", and a version of Coltrane's "Naima", done as a solo piano work. ✨✧ Earth Wind & FireBest Of Earth Wind & Fire Vol 1 (picture disc) ... LP
Columbia, Mid 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic stuff through and through – and almost a "best of" best of collection from the 70s! The album's a key illustration of the genius of Earth Wind & Fire on Columbia Records – because by the time the set was released in 1978, most of the tracks were already well-known hits – but still had a soulful power and righteous undercurrent that few other chart acts could match. Maurice White, Charles Stepney, and the others have a perfect way of holding onto their deepest inspirations while honing their sills in the studio – and the results of that commitment are heard beautifully on tracks that include "Got To Get You Into My Life", "Shining Star", "Getaway", "Can't Hide Love", "Fantasy", "Reasons", "September", and "That's The Way Of The World". Peter BrownDo You Wanna Get Funky With Me? ... LP
Drive, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $11.99
A super-huge moment for Miami funk guru Peter Brown – a record instantly recognized by the silhouetted cover image of a perky nude in a window on the front, and for the very famous title hit, "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" Despite its hit status, the record's actually a pretty nice example of Brown's talents – with plenty of spare cuts that feature keyboards, percussion, and synth – plus some occasional vocals by Betty Wright, Pat Hurley, or the vocal group Wildflower. Titles include "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me", "Dance With Me", "Without Love", "Fantasy Love Affair", "You Should Do It", and "For Your Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear. Vinyl has a short click on "Singer's Become A Dancer".)

✨✧ Wes MontgomeryWes Best ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s/1967. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Great early work from guitar genius Wes Montgomery – a late 60s album, but one that pulls together his recordings with The Brothers Montgomery – with Monk Montgomery on bass, and Buddy Montgomery on vibes and piano – with either Lawrence Marable or Paul Humphries on drums! Titles include "Jingles", "Monterey Blues", "Snowfall", "Angel Eyes", "Beaux Arts", "Lover Man", "June In January", and "Barbados". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Guido & Maurizio DeAngelisBomber ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1982. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A catchy little soundtrack for a weird sort of film – one in which Italian comedy heavyweight Bud Spencer plays a boxer, and gets a great theme to match his action in and out of the ring! The core of the score is a groovy electro pop tune titled "Fantasy" – almost a mix between late 70s ELO and some of the cop/crime work of Guido & Maurizio DeAngelis – served up here in many many variations – some vocal, some instrumental – so that the whole thing almost feels like a long set of remixes dedicated to a single tune! There's a few other tracks in the mix too – and these space things out slightly – and although we've never seen the movie, we're betting that this repetition of Bud's theme is part of the charm of the whole thing.
